French Madagascar

Malagasy Language
Malagasy (; ) is an Austronesian language and the national language of Madagascar. Malagasy is the westernmost Malayo-Polynesian language, brought to Madagascar by the settlement of Austronesian peoples from the Sunda islands around the 5th century AD. The Malagasy language is one of the Barito languages and is most closely related to the Ma'anyan language, still spoken on Borneo to this day. Malagasy also includes numerous Malay loanwords, from the time of the early Austronesian settlement and trading between Madagascar and the Sunda Islands. After c. 1000 AD, Malagasy incorporated numerous Bantu and Arabic loanwords, brought over by traders and new settlers. Malagasy is spoken by around 25 million people in Madagascar and the Comoros. Most people in Madagascar speak it as a first language, as do some people of Malagasy descent elsewhere. Malagasy is divided between two main dialect groups; Eastern and Western. Sorabe
Sorabe or Sora-be () is an alphabet based on Arabic, formerly used to transcribe the Malagasy language (belonging to the Malayo-Polynesian language family) and the Antemoro Malagasy dialect, dating from the 15th century. History Researchers are still hypothesizing about the origins of this transcription system. "Sorabe" means literally "large writings" from Arabic " sura" (writing) and Malagasy "be" (large). This denomination might point to the existence of a previous writing system with smaller characters of Sanskrit origin used in South East Asia as it is evidenced in some Malagasy words. Traditionally, researchers have speculated that this writing system was introduced through commercial contacts of Malagasy with Arab Muslims.Ferrand, Gabriel (1905) However, more recent studies claim that this writing scheme might have been introduced by Javanese Muslims.Simon P. (2006) There are striking similarities between "Sorabe" and " Pegon" writings (the Javanese version of Arabi ...

Polynesian Culture
Polynesian culture is the culture of the indigenous peoples of Polynesia who share common traits in language, customs and society. AD 700) *Development in isolation (c. 700 โ€“ 1595) *European encounter and colonization until World War II (1595โ€“1946) *Post-World War II Period History Origins, exploration and settlement (c. 1800 BC โ€“ c. 700 AD) Maternal mitochondrial DNA analysis suggests that Polynesians, including Samoans, Tongans, Niueans, Cook Islanders, Tahitians, Hawaiians, Marquesans and Mฤori, are genetically linked to indigenous peoples of parts of Maritime Southeast Asia including those of Taiwanese aborigines. This DNA evidence is supported by linguistic and archeological evidence. Recent studies into paternal Y chromosome analysis shows that Polynesians are also genetically linked to peoples of Melanesia.
