Isis River (Queensland)
The Isis River is a river in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland, Australia. Formed by the confluence of the Smith and Sarahana Creeks, the river rises east of Childers and flows in an easterly direction where it joins the Burrum River, south of . Not far from its junction with the Isis River, the Burrum and the Gregory River form a confluence and empty into the Coral Sea at Burrum Heads. The river descends over its course. The drainage sub-basin occupies an area of . South of Childers, the river is crossed by the Bruce Highway via the Isis River Bridge. The river was named by its European discoverers, two colonial surveyors who likened it to the River Isis in Oxfordshire, England. The Isis
"The Isis" () is an alternative name for the River Thames, used from its source in the Cotswolds until it is joined by the Thame at Dorchester in Oxfordshire. It derives from the ancient name for the Thames, ''Tamesis'', which in the Middle Ages was believed to be a combination of "Thame" and "Isis". Notably, the Isis flows through the city of Oxford. Rowing The name "Isis" is especially used in the context of rowing at the University of Oxford. Burrum Heads
Burrum Heads is a coastal town and locality in the Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Burrum Heads had a population of 2,067 people. Geography The waters of Hervey Bay form the north-eastern and eastern boundary. The Burrum River forms the western, north-western and northern boundaries, while Beelbi Creek forms the south-eastern boundary. History The town was originally called Traviston after the original owner Robert Travis. It was renamed Burrum Heads in 1960, which takes its name from the Burrum River, which in turn is an word in the Kabi language meaning ''rocks interrupting river flow''. The Burrum Heads public library opened in 1987 and underwent a major refurbishment in 2013. Isis Shire
The Shire of Isis was a local government area located in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland, Australia, to the south of Bundaberg. The Shire, administered from the town of Childers covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1887 until 2008, when it was amalgamated with the City of Bundaberg and the Shires of Burnett and Kolan to form the Bundaberg Region. History The Isis Division was established on 1 January 1887 under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1887'', on land previously part of the Burrum Division. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', Isis Division became the Shire of Isis on 31 March 1903. Isis Highway
The Isis Highway is a state highway in southern Queensland, Australia. The highway is relatively short, and runs for in a north-east / south-west direction between Bundaberg North and the Burnett Highway at Ban Ban Springs. The Isis Highway links the sugar producing Bundaberg and Fraser Coast regions with the cattle farming districts of the North Burnett. The highway takes its name from the Isis River, which flows between Maryborough and Childers. The highway also passes through a significant amount of the former Isis Shire local government area, of which Childers was the administrative centre. Isis River Bridge
The Isis River Bridge is a road bridge over the Isis River south of Childers, Queensland, Australia. The bridge was built on a new and improved alignment of the Bruce Highway. It replaced the 54-year-old bridge which was prone to flooding. The new bridge will improve flood immunity as it is almost seven metres higher than the old bridge. The new bridge, constructed by Seymour Whyte, opened to traffic on 12 August 2011. The old bridge was demolished on completion of the project in late September 2011. Bruce Highway
The Bruce Highway is a major highway in Queensland, Australia. Commencing in the state capital, Brisbane, it passes through areas close to the eastern coast on its way to Cairns in Far North Queensland. The route is part of the Australian National Highway and also part of Highway 1, the longest highway route in Australia. Its length is approximately ; it is entirely sealed with bitumen. Coral Sea
The Coral Sea () is a marginal sea of the South Pacific off the northeast coast of Australia, and classified as an interim Australian bioregion.
