Ishti (Film)
''Ishti'' (or ''Iṣti:''; English: ''Search for the Self'') is a 2016 Sanskrit-language film, directed by Dr. G. Prabha, starring thespian Nedumudi Venu and newcomer Athira Patel in lead roles. "Ishti" literally means search for self, ''yaga'', etc. The film is the first in Sanskrit with a social theme. ''Ishti'' is written, scripted, produced and directed by Dr. G. Prabha, a Sanskrit professor and a doctorate holder in Sanskrit. ''Ishti'' is not the country’s first Sanskrit film. But it certainly is the first one to deal with a social theme. G. Prabha, a doctorate holder in Sanskrit, was the former Head of the Department, Oriental Languages at Loyola College, Chennai. Nedumudi Venu
Kesavan Venugopal (22 May 1948 – 11 October 2021), better known by his stage name Nedumudi Venu, was an Indian actor and screenwriter from Kerala, who predominantly worked in Malayalam cinema. He acted in more than 500 films, primarily in Malayalam cinema, Malayalam and also in Tamil cinema, Tamil in a career spanning nearly five decades. He wrote screenplays and directed one film. Nedumudi Venu won three National Film Awards and six Kerala State Film Awards for his various performances. Early life Venu was born as Venugopal to P. K. Kesava Pillai, a school master and P. Kunjikkuttiyamma in Nedumudi as the youngest of their five children. He had four elder brothers. Marumakkathayam
Marumakkathayam was a system of matrilineal inheritance prevalent in regions what now form part of the southern Indian state Kerala. Descent and the inheritance of property was traced through females. It was followed by all Nair castes, Ambalavasi and tribal groups. The elder male was considered the head known as karanavar and the entire assets of the family were controlled by him as if he was the sole owner. The properties were not handed to his sons but to the daughters of his sons or to their sisters. The word literally means inheritance by sisters' children, as opposed to sons and daughters. 'Marumakkal', in the Malayalam language, means nephews and nieces. The joint family under the matrilineal system is known as Tharavad and formed the nucleus of the society in Malabar. Kathakali
Kathakali ( ml, കഥകളി) is a major form of classical Indian dance. It is a "story play" genre of art, but one distinguished by the elaborately colourful make-up and costumes of the traditional male actor-dancers.
