Isfjorden (fjord In Møre Og Romsdal)
Isfjorden is a branch of the great Romsdal Fjord in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The long fjord stretches past the town of Åndalsnes and ends at the village of Isfjorden. The Norwegian County Road 64 runs around the whole fjord. The Rauma Line has its terminus at the railway port in the town of Åndalsnes, on the southern coast of the fjord. History During the Battle of Kringen in 1612, Scottish forces sailed into the Isfjorden, landed, and then proceeded to march towards the Romsdalen valley. Møre og Romsdal (; en, Møre and Romsdal) is a county in the northernmost part of Western Norway. It borders the counties of Trøndelag, Innlandet, and Vestland. The county administration is located in the town of Molde, while Ålesund is the largest town. Romsdal Fjord
Romsdalsfjord or Romsdal Fjord ( no, Romsdalsfjorden) is the ninth-longest fjord in Norway. It is long and located in the Romsdal district of Møre og Romsdal county. It flows through the municipalities of Molde, Ålesund, Vestnes, and Rauma. The deepest point in the fjord is just southwest of the town of Molde, where it is deep. is a town in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. Åndalsnes is in the administrative center of Rauma Municipality. It is located along the Isfjorden, at the mouth of the river Rauma, at the north end of the Romsdalen valley. The village of Isfjorden lies about to the east, Veblungsnes lies just to the west across the Rauma, and Innfjorden lies about to the southwest via the European Route E136 highway. Isfjorden is a village in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located about east of the town of Åndalsnes. The mountains Kyrkjetaket and Gjuratinden lie a few kilometers away. The historic Hen Church is located in the village. The village has a population (2018) of 1,326 and a population density of . History Isfjorden played an important role in the Battle of Kringen, when Scottish ships, needing a landing spot after sea routes had been blocked by Danish forces, landed there on 20 August 1612. Clothing industry Historically there was a lot of trade between Isfjorden and the northern county of Nordland. Shoes and clothing were produced in practically every home, and eventually several factories were established. This earned Isfjorden the label "the cradle of the Norwegian clothing industry". Rauma Municipality
Rauma is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Romsdal. The administrative centre is the town of Åndalsnes. Other settlements in Rauma include the villages of Måndalen, Innfjorden, Veblungsnes, Verma, Isfjorden, Eidsbygda, Rødven, Åfarnes, and Mittet. Most settlement in the municipality is located along the fjords and in the Romsdalen valley. County Road 64 ( no, Fylkesvei 64) is a two-lane highway which runs between the towns of Kristiansund and Åndalsnes in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It branches from National Road 70 in Kristiansund, runs through the Atlantic Ocean Tunnel, across the island of Averøya, and across the Atlantic Ocean Road to Eide Municipality. It continues to Årø in Molde Municipality via the Tussen Tunnel, then heads under Fannefjorden in the Fannefjord Tunnel, across the island of Bolsøya then over the Bolsøy Bridge to the Skåla Peninsula. Rauma Line
The Rauma Line ( no, Raumabanen) is a long railway between the town of Åndalsnes (in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county), and the village of Dombås (in Dovre Municipality in Oppland county), in Norway. Running down the Romsdalen valley, the line opened between 1921 and 1924 as a branch of the Dovre Line, which connects to the cities of Oslo and Trondheim. Originally intended as the first stage to connect Ålesund, and possibly also Molde and Kristiansund, no extensions have ever been realized. The unelectrified line is served four times daily with Norwegian State Railways' Class 93, although in the summer the service only operates from Åndalsnes to Bjorli as a tourist service. Battle Of Kringen
Battle of Kringen ( no, Slaget ved Kringen) involved an ambush by Norwegian peasant militia of Scottish mercenary soldiers who were on their way to enlist in the Swedish army for the Kalmar War. The battle has since become a part of folklore in Norway, giving names to local places in the Ottadalen valley. Background The Scottish forces (''Skottetoget'') were partly recruited, partly pressed into service by Sir James Spens, apparently against the preferences of James VI, who favored the Danish-Norwegian side in the war. Two ships sailed from Dundee and Caithness in early August, met up on the Orkney Islands and sailed for Norway. Because sea routes had been blocked by Danish forces in the Kalmar War, the Scots decided to follow a land route to Sweden that other Scottish and Dutch forces had successfully used. Romsdalen is a valley in the western part of Norway. The long valley runs through Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county and Lesja Municipality in Innlandet county. It is the valley of the Rauma river, from Old Norse word ''Raumsdalr'' which means Rauma valley. The traditional district of Romsdal, which makes up about one-third of Møre og Romsdal county, is named for the valley of Romsdalen. The main road E136 and the Rauma line runs along the valley floor.
