Alexander Kennedy Isbister
Alexander Kennedy Isbister (June 1822 – 28 May 1883) was born at Cumberland House in what is now Saskatchewan. He was an HBC employee in his early career and later was a lawyer and an educational writer and author of many school books. Isbister was Métis and educated in Orkney and at the Red River Colony. His first HBC posting was to Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories, which is in the Mackenzie River District. He assisted John Bell in establishing Fort McPherson on the Peel River. During that period, he explored the Mackenzie River basin and later used the information gathered to produce important geological writings and the first chromolithograph map for the area. In 1842, Alexander left for Britain where he was an educator and lawyer and a champion of Métis rights. The passion over Métis rights grew out of discrimination he had felt during his tenure with the Hudson's Bay Company. Bob Isbister
Robert "Big Bob" Isbister Sr. (June 9, 1885 – April 29, 1963) was a star football player in the Ontario Rugby Football Union 1905-1906 and then in the Big Four (IRFU) 1907-1915, 1919 for twelve seasons for the Hamilton Tigers. After retiring, he was a referee. Isbister was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and died in Hamilton, Ontario. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1965 and into the Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1975. Brad Isbister
Brad Isbister (born May 7, 1977) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger who played 541 regular season games in the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Isbister grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and played junior hockey with the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, recording 49 points in 35 games in 1992–93. The following season, he began his career in the Western Hockey League with the Portland Winter Hawks. After a 16-goal, 36-point season in 1994–95, he was drafted in the third round, 67th overall, by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. Upon being drafted, he returned to the Winter Hawks and recorded 89 points, as well as a team-high 45 goals. In his final year with the Winter Hawks, Isbister recorded 33 points in 24 games and was named to the WHL West Second All-Star Team. Jean Sinclair "Clair" Isbister CBE, ''née'' Paton (12 September 1915 – 20 August 2008) was an Australian paediatrician. She was born in Brisbane to Peter Sinclair Paton and Hannah, ''née'' Beet. Dux of St George Girls High School, she won scholarships to study at the University of Sydney. She received a Bachelor of Medicine Sydney in 1938 and a Diploma of Child Health from the University of London in 1949. Having met James Isbister at university, she graduated with him in 1938, working first at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and then at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children. They were married at Scots Church, Sydney, in 1940. She became consultant paediatrician at Royal North Shore Hospital in 1948, a position she held until her retirement in 1980. James Isbister
James Isbister (November 29, 1833 – October 16, 1915) was a Canadian Métis leader of the 19th century. Prominent among the Anglo-Métis of the area, he is considered to be the founder of the city of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Life An interpreter for the Hudson's Bay Company for many years, Isbister was talented linguistically, speaking English, Gaelic, Cree, Dene, and Michif. Isbister began farming in the summer of 1862 one mile east of the present day federal penitentiary at Prince Albert. The area he farmed is close to present day 17 Avenue and 14 Street West. Isbister was probably the first man in what is now known as Saskatchewan to grow wheat on his own farm. He also worked on the John Smith Reserve (currently the Muskoday First Nation) as a farm instructor. Malcolm Isbister
Malcolm Scarth Isbister (August 31, 1850 – June 30, 1920) was a Scottish-born merchant and political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. He served as mayor of Saskatoon in 1905. He was born in the Orkney Islands, the son of John Isbister, and came to Galt, Canada West with his parents in 1857. Isbister was educated in Huron County and at the normal school in Toronto. He taught school in Ontario for a number of years. In 1874, Isbister married Margaret Sharpe. He worked as a contractor for the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1883, then entered business as the junior partner with his brother Adam Isbister in Petrolia and Port Arthur where they purchased the stock and goodwill of merchant Noah Keen Street in November 1884. Rod Isbister
Rodney J. Isbister (born March 29, 1963) is a member of the Northeastern University athletics Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 2003 for his accomplishments in ice hockey. Isbister was one of the offensive leaders for the Northeastern Huskies. In his freshman year he scored 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points, a scoring figure exceeded by only two previous Husky freshmen. He was named NU's Rookie of the Year for the season. During Isbister's sophomore campaign the Huskies won the second ever Beanpot championship. For the season Isbister scored 19 goals and 25 assists for 44 points. He was named to the All-New England team. Isbister helped to make Northeastern history as the Huskies won their first, back-to-back Beanpot Championships in 1985.
