Isaipriya
Shoba also known as Shobana Dharmaraja (commonly known as Isaipriya or Isaippiriya; 1982–2009) was a Sri Lankan Tamil journalist and television broadcaster for the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. She died in the final days of the Sri Lankan Civil War in 2009 with video evidence that she was captured by the Sri Lankan military before being raped, tortured and murdered. A senior United Nations official deemed the footage to be authentic. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch also verified that it was her. A biopic about her, Porkalathil Oru Poo was banned in India as it would harm friendly relations with Sri Lanka. Early life and family Shoba was born in 1982 and hailed from Delft Island. Porkalathil Oru Poo
''Porkalathil Oru Poo'' () is an unreleased Indian Tamil-language film directed by K Ganeshan. It is based on the life of Isaipriya also known as "Lieutenant Colonel Issei Piriya", a journalist and television broadcaster for the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. It was planned to be released in 2015 but was banned by the Censor Board as it would damage India–Sri Lanka relations. Controversy ''Porkalathil Oru Poo'' was refused clearance and banned by the Censor Board of India after it was reviewed by its member S. Ve. Shekher on the grounds it would damage ties with Sri Lanka. The filmmakers have said they plan to challenge the ban. On 8 October 2016, Justice T. S. Sri Lankan IDP Camps
The final stages of the Sri Lankan Civil War created 300,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were transferred to camps in Vavuniya District and detained there against their will. This process, together with conditions inside the camps and the slow progress of resettlement attracted much concern and criticism from inside and outside Sri Lanka. On 7 May 2009 the Sri Lankan government announced plans to resettle 80% of the IDPs by the end of 2009. After the end of the civil war Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave assurances to foreign diplomats that the bulk of the IDPs would be resettled in accordance with the 180-day plan. 53 Division (Sri Lanka)
The 53 Division is an elite division of the Sri Lanka Army. Trained and formed in 1996 under the leadership of US military officers, the unit was used as a principal offensive division during the War, having been deployed for combat operations in the Jaffna Peninsula, and is under the command of Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna. 98% of the soldiers were “regulars”, meaning previous generations of their families had served or were serving in the military. The brigades of the 53 Division are also trained by the US Special Forces, which have been closely involved with its development and training since 1997.
