Isabel Pires
Isabel Cristina Rua Pires (born 21 June 1990) is a Portuguese politician and former member of the Assembly of the Republic, the national legislature of Portugal. A member of the Left Bloc, she has represented Lisbon from October 2015 to March 2022 and Porto from September 2023 to March 2024. She had also been a temporary substitute member of the Assembly from February 2023 to August 2023. Early life Pires was born on 21 June 1990 in Vila Nova de Gaia. She lived in Gaia until she was 19 when she moved to Lisbon to study. She has a degree in political science and international relations from NOVA University Lisbon (she had started her studies in language, literature and culture before switching subjects). She was a student activist, organinsing general strikes and demonstrations. Assembly Of The Republic (Portugal)
The Assembly of the Republic (Portuguese: ''Assembleia da República'', ), commonly referred to as simply Parliament (Portuguese: ''Parlamento''), is the unicameral parliament of Portugal. According to the Constitution of Portugal, the parliament "is the representative assembly of all Portuguese citizens". The constitution names the assembly as one of the country's organs of supreme authority. 2017 Lisbon Local Election
The 2017 Lisbon local election was held on 1 October 2017 to elect the members of the Lisbon City Council. Against a fractured opposition, Fernando Medina, mayor since the resignation of António Costa in 2015, was elected for a full term, defeating Assunção Cristas (CDS – People's Party, CDS-PP leader) and Teresa Leal Coelho (Social Democratic Party (Portugal), PSD). Despite the victory, the Socialist Party (Portugal), Socialist Party lost its majority by one seat, having to rely of the Left Bloc (Portugal), Left Bloc's support. 2024 Portuguese Legislative Election
Snap election, Snap legislative elections were held on 10 March 2024 to elect members of the Assembly of the Republic (Portugal), Assembly of the Republic to the 16th Legislature of Portugal. All 230 seats to the Assembly of the Republic were up for election. The elections were called in November 2023 after Prime Minister António Costa's resignation following an investigation around alleged corruption involving the award of contracts for lithium and hydrogen businesses. ''Diário de NotÃcias'' () is a Portuguese daily newspaper published in Lisbon, Portugal. Established since 1864, the paper is considered a newspaper of record for Portugal. History and profile ''Diário de NotÃcias'' was first published in Lisbon on 29 December 1864 by Tomás Quintino Antunes and Eduardo Coelho. At its early phase the paper had no explicit political stance and financially relied on the advertisements. Its headquarters is in Lisbon. CNN Portugal is a Portuguese basic cable and satellite television news channel owned by Media Capital, launched on 26 February 2009 as TVI 24, the 24-hour news channel of the terrestrial network Televisão Independente.
