Isabel Mendes Lopes
Isabel Rendeiro Marques Mendes Lopes (born 28 February 1982) is a Portuguese civil engineer, politician and member of the Assembly of the Republic, the national legislature of Portugal. A member of the LIVRE party, she has represented Lisbon since March 2024. Early life Lopes was born on 28 February 1982 in the United Kingdom. She moved to Portugal at the age of two and lives in Lisbon. She has a degree in civil engineering (2005) from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). She also has a master's degree (2008) in mobility and transport from IST. Career Lopes is a civil engineer by profession, specialising in transport and planning. She worked for Infraestruturas de Portugal until 2022. She has been a storyteller of children's books since 2018 and has also done theatrical work. The Assembly of the Republic (Portuguese: ''Assembleia da República'', ), commonly referred to as simply Parliament (Portuguese: ''Parlamento''), is the unicameral parliament of Portugal. Municipal Assembly (Portugal)
An ''Assembleia Municipal'' (; "municipal assembly"; plural: ''assembleias municipais'') is the legislature that governs a municipality in Portugal. Part of the assembly's members are elected every four years among candidate lists by the D'Hondt method, simultaneously with the election of the ''Câmara Municipal''; the remainder member are the presidents of the Junta de freguesia that compose the municipality, whose number cannot exceed the number of elected members. A municipal assembly generally meets five times a year, and its members are paid a presence fee for each meeting. It is a level higher than the Assembleia de freguesia. The ''Diário da República'' (DR) is the official gazette of Portugal. Between 1869 and 1976, it was called the ''Diário do Governo''. It is published by the National Printing House and comprises two series. Laws, decree-laws, decisions by the Constitutional Court and other relevant texts are published in the I Series. Regulations, public contracts, etc. are published in the II Series. As in many countries, legislative texts are only binding after publication (article 119 of the Portuguese Constitution). Since July 1, 2006, the gazette is published in electronic form, with only a handful of authenticated printed copies (for deposit in the National Archive, the Presidency, the Assembleia da República, the high courts, etc.). 2021 Lisbon Local Election
The 2021 Lisbon local election was held on 26 September 2021 to elect the members of the Lisbon City Council. In what was the biggest surprise of the 2021 municipal elections, Carlos Moedas, the candidate of the center-right coalition led by the Social Democratic Party, managed to be elected Mayor of Lisbon and put an end to 14 years of Socialist rule. Against all expectations, the center-right coalition managed to regain the capital by winning 34.3% of the votes and 7 councilors. Despite his victory, Carlos Moedas will have to seek understandings with the other parties represented in the City Council. The big loser in this election was Fernando Medina, candidate of the Socialist Party (which ran in alliance with LIVRE), as he lost his reelection bid, an office he had hold since 2015 and which had been in Socialist hands since 2007. 2024 Portuguese Legislative Election
Snap election, Snap legislative elections were held on 10 March 2024 to elect members of the Assembly of the Republic (Portugal), Assembly of the Republic to the 16th Legislature of Portugal.
