Isaac Owens
Isaac Owens (1881–1916) was an English footballer who played as an inside left or centre forward in the Football League for Woolwich Arsenal and Grimsby Town. He also played non-league football for Darlington (in three separate spells), Bishop Auckland, Crook Town, Plymouth Argyle, Bristol Rovers and Crystal Palace. Life and career Owens was born in Howden-le-Wear, County Durham, in 1881. Retrieved 10 February 2017. He began his football career with Darlington of the Northern League and then joined Bishop Auckland. He contributed to Bishops winning the 1900–01 Northern League title, and played for them in the first Champions versus Rest of the League fixture, before moving on to another Northern League team, FA Amateur Cup-holders Crook Town. His stay there was brief: in October 1901 he signed for Football League Second Division club Woolwich Arsenal. The Football League
The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League. A replay (also called a rematch) is the repetition of a match in many sports. Association football In association football, replays were often used to decide the winner in a knock-out tournament when the previous match ended in a draw, especially in finals. In 1970, FIFA (the worldwide governing body of the sport) and IFAB (the international rules committee for the sport) allowed penalty shoot-outs to be held if a match ended in a draw after extra time. The penalty shootout made its appearance immediately thereafter. The first instance of a shootout replacing a replay (rather than lots) was the final of the 1976 European championship. The shootout's first use at the World Cup took place in the 1982 semi-finals. Replays are now only used in the early rounds of the English FA Cup tournament, as well as rounds up until the semi-finals in the Scottish Cup. 1903–04 FA Cup
The 1903–04 FA Cup was the 33rd season of the world's oldest association football competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup (more usually known as the FA Cup). Manchester City won the competition for the first time, beating Bolton Wanderers 1–0 in the final at Crystal Palace, through a goal scored by Billy Meredith. Matches were scheduled to be played at the stadium of the team named first on the date specified for each round, which was always a Saturday. If scores were level after 90 minutes had been played, a replay would take place at the stadium of the second-named team later the same week. The FA Amateur Cup was an English football competition for amateur clubs. It commenced in 1893 and ended in 1974 when the Football Association abolished official amateur status.
