Isaac Hatfield
Isaac Smith Hatfield (1826 – October 20, 1872) was a merchant and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Argyle township in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1863 to 1867 as a Liberal-Conservative. He was born at Tusket Lakes, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, the son of Captain James Hatfield and Elizabeth Lent, the daughter of James Lent. He married the widow Sarah Harding (née Cochrane). Hatfield served as a justice of the peace from 1855 to 1872. He lived at Tusket, Nova Scotia Tusket is a small fishing community located in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia on route 308. Tusket Lakes
Tusket is a small fishing community, fishing community located in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia on Nova Scotia Route 308, route 308. History "Neketaouksit", the Mi'kmaq word for the "Great Forked Tidal River", evolved to what is now called Tusket. The village was originally settled by Acadians before the British launched the Cape Sable Campaign. Afterward the community was also settled by Dutch Empire, Dutch United Empire Loyalists from New York (state), New York and New Jersey in 1785, after the Great Expulsion. In the 19th century the village was very prosperous as a major ship building centre. In 1801, the town rescued those who remained from the ship wreck of the Industry, after drifting in lifeboats for 5 days in the Bay of Fundy. The Old Tusket Courthouse, built in 1805 and featuring a bell tower, is the oldest standing courthouse in Canada. James Lent (Nova Scotia Politician)
James Lent (1753 – August 11, 1838) was a judge and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Shelburne County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1806 to 1818. He was baptized on February 25, 1753, in Tappan, New Jersey, the son of Adolph Lent and Katje Harring. He was by trade a fisherman, catching herring, salmon and other fish for sale in local markets and for shipping to the West Indies. In 1774, he married Breechje "Brigitte" Schmitt. He was a loyalist during the American Revolution, serving with the New Jersey Volunteers. In 1785 he settled in Tusket, Nova Scotia, bringing with him several enslaved individuals, including Abigail Price and William and Anthony Berry. He became influential with the government of Nova Scotia, serving as both a justice of the peace and a justice in the Inferior Court of Common Pleas for Yarmouth County. Forman Hatfield
Cornelius Forman Hatfield (December 27, 1828 – June 13, 1910) was a merchant, shipbuilder, ship owner and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Yarmouth County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1890 to 1894 as a Liberal member. He was born in Tusket, Nova Scotia, the son of Captain James Hatfield and Elizabeth Lent, the daughter of James Lent. Hatfield was married three times: first to Deborah Hatfield, then to Sarah Bowlby in 1844 and finally to Marion Anderson. Forman owned general stores at Tusket and Tusket Wedge. He was a justice of the peace from 1872 to 1910 and served on the municipal council for Argyle township from 1902 to 1910, serving as warden from 1907 to 1910. He also served as coroner. He died in Tusket at the age of 81.
