Isaac Fletcher (American Politician)
Isaac Fletcher (November 22, 1784 – October 19, 1842) was an American lawyer and politician. He served as a U.S. Representative from Vermont and as Adjutant General of the Vermont Militia. Biography Fletcher was born in Dunstable, Massachusetts to Joseph Fletcher and Molly Cummings Fletcher. He pursued classical studies, and graduated with honors from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire in 1808. He taught at the academy at Chesterfield, New Hampshire while in college, and after graduating he studied law with the firm of Prescott & Dunbar in Keene, New Hampshire. He was admitted to the bar in Keene and in Newfane, Vermont in December 1811, and moved to Lyndon, Vermont to start a practice. Among the prospective attorneys who studied under Fletcher were Thomas J. D. Fuller and Thomas Bartlett Jr. He was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives for several terms between 1819 and 1825, and served as Speaker from 1824 to 1825. Issac Fletcher (1827 – 3 April 1879) was a British ironmaster and Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1868 to 1879. Fletcher committed suicide by revolver on Thursday, 10 April 19, 1879. Personal life Fletcher was born at Greysouthen, Cumberland, into a Quaker family, the son of John Wilson Fletcher. He was elected in the 1868 General Election as MP for Cockermouth as a moderate Liberal. Isaac Fletcher had numerous business interests. Isaac Andrew Fletcher (born 1 June 2002) is an English professional footballer who plays for Middlesbrough as a midfielder. Isaac Dudley Fletcher
Isaac Dudley Fletcher (1844 – April 28, 1917) was an American businessman, art collector and museum benefactor. Native of Bangor, Maine, he settled in New York in 1865 and was a member of the Lotos and Union League clubs. He had the mansion built that is called today the Harry F. Sinclair House. He was president of Barrett Manufacturing Company which distributed asphalt and acquired a large art collection which he bequeathed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. According to the Frick library, he owned work by "David, Gainsborough, Rembrandt, Reynolds, and Rubens, Alexander H Wyant, Corot and Daubigny". The "work by David" referred to the '' Portrait of Charlotte du Val d'Ognes'', which at the time of the bequest in 1917 was still attributed to Jacques-Louis David, but since 1995 has been attributed to Marie-Denise Villers.
