Isaac Donnom Witherspoon
Isaac Donnom Witherspoon (1803 - 1858) was a politician in South Carolina. He served in the state house and then the state senate. He succeeded William K. Clowney as lieutenant governor and served from December 1842 until December 1844. He was succeeded by J. F. Ervin. His brother James Witherspoon Sr. Also served as Lieutenant governor as did James Hervey Witherspoon Jr. He died of a stroke. Lieutenant Governor Of South Carolina
The lieutenant governor of South Carolina is the second-in-command to the governor of South Carolina. Beyond overseeing the Office on Aging and the responsibility to act or serve as governor in the event of the office's vacancy, the duties of the lieutenant governor are chiefly ceremonial. The current lieutenant governor is Pamela Evette, who took office January 9, 2019. Roles and responsibilities The chief responsibility of the lieutenant governor is to act as governor in the case that the governor is temporarily unable to fulfill his or her duties. The South Carolina House of Representatives is the lower house of the South Carolina General Assembly. It consists of 124 representatives elected to two-year terms at the same time as U.S. congressional elections. The South Carolina Senate is the upper house of the South Carolina General Assembly, the lower house being the South Carolina House of Representatives. It consists of 46 senators elected from single member districts for four-year terms at the same time as United States presidential elections.
