Irène Kälin
Irène Kälin (born 6 February 1987 in Lenzburg, Aargau; place of origin, originally from Einsiedeln) is a Switzerland, Swiss politician of the Green Party of Switzerland, Green Party. Life and career Studies and professional career Kälin earned her ''Matura'' at the Gymnasium Leonhard in Basel in 2007. In 2009, she started her Islamic and religion studies at the University of Zurich and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 2013. In 2014, she joined the master's programme ''Religionskulturen'' of the University of Bern, where she wrote a dissertation about the state recognition of Islam. She worked as a trade unionist for Unia (union), Unia Aargau from 2015 to 2016 and is now the chairwoman of ArbeitAargau, the umbrella organisation of employees in the canton. 2019 Swiss Federal Election
Federal elections were held in Switzerland on 20 October 2019 to elect all members of both houses of the Federal Assembly. This was followed by the 2019 election to the Swiss Federal Council, the federal executive, by the United Federal Assembly. In the 20 October elections, the two green parties, the Green Party of Switzerland and the Green Liberal Party of Switzerland, made major electoral gains, taking 13.2% and 7.8% of the vote respectively. As in the previous election, the Swiss People's Party received the most votes, but its share of votes went down to 25.6% from 29.4%. Initial media coverage interprets the 2019 election results as a "green wave" marking a leftward shift of the Swiss electorate on the political spectrum. The Council of States (german: Ständerat, french: Conseil des États, it, Consiglio degli Stati, rm, Cussegl dals Stadis) is the upper house of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, with the National Council being the lower house. It comprises 46 members. Twenty of the country's cantons are represented by two Councillors each.
