Irpin ( uk, Ірпі́нь, ) is a Hero City of Ukraine located on the Irpin River in Bucha Raion, Kyiv Oblast (province) right next to the city of Kyiv in northern Ukraine. Bucha Raion ( uk, Бучанський район, translit=Buchanskyi raion) is a raion (district) of Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine. It was created in July 2020 as part of the reform of administrative divisions of Ukraine. Its administrative center is the town of Bucha. Hostomel ( uk, Гостомель, ) is a city in Bucha Raion, Kyiv Oblast, northwest of the capital city of Kyiv. It hosts the administration of Hostomel settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Kyiv-Sviatoshyn Raion () was a raion (district) in Kyiv Oblast of Ukraine, adjacent to the city of Kyiv which served as the administrative center for the raion. The city of Kyiv itself did not belong to the raion. The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kyiv Oblast to seven. Kotsiubynske ( uk, Коцюбинське) is an urban-type settlement and municipality in Bucha Raion, Kyiv Oblast (province) of Ukraine. The municipality is an enclave and located outside the borders of Kyiv Oblast, instead fully surrounded by the nation's capital Kyiv ( Svyatoshyne Raion). Vorzel ( uk, Во́рзель) is an urban-type settlement in Bucha Raion, Kyiv Oblast of Ukraine. It belongs to Bucha urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: It is home to Scripture Union's International Youth Camp. History The village was formed in 1905 (as the memorial plaque on the building of the Vorzelsky railway station says) on the 37th kilometer of the section of the Kovel railway, thanks to the collaboration of local landowners Krasovsky, Chaika, von Derviz, Saratovsky, Pekhovsky and Kicheeva. During World War II the village was occupied by German troops on 22 September 1941. Two years later, in November 1943, Soviet troops took it back for the USSR without a fight. Battle Of Kyiv (1941)
The First Battle of Kiev was the German name for the operation that resulted in a huge encirclement of Soviet troops in the vicinity of Kiev during World War II. This encirclement is considered the largest encirclement in the history of warfare (by number of troops). The operation ran from 7 July to 26 September 1941, as part of Operation Barbarossa, the Axis invasion of the Soviet Union. Much of the Southwestern Front of the Red Army (commanded by Mikhail Kirponos) was encircled, but small groups of Red Army troops managed to escape the pocket days after the German panzers met east of the city, including the headquarters of Marshal Semyon Budyonny, Marshal Semyon Timoshenko and Commissar Nikita Khrushchev.
