Ironwood State Prison
Ironwood State Prison (ISP) is a state prison located south of Interstate 10, in a detached section of Blythe, California, that lies west of the main portion of the city. It is located in eastern Riverside County, California, adjacent to Chuckawalla Valley State Prison. Facilities and programs ISP consists of four Level III facilities and an outside Level I facility. Parts of the Level III facilities have been converted to Sensitive Needs Yard (SNY) housing, and one of the Level III housing units has been converted to an Administrative Segregation Unit. Neil McDowell has been the warden or acting warden since 2014. As of July 31, 2022, ISP was incarcerating people at 112% of its design capacity, with 2,464 occupants. The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) is a Los Angeles–based nonprofit organization founded by Scott Budnick. ARC is a support network for formerly incarcerated individuals and advocates for criminal justice reform. ARC's mission is to reduce incarceration, improve the outcomes of formerly incarcerated individuals, and build healthier communities. History In 1997, Budnick first became interested in juveniles in prison after reading a ''Rolling Stone'' article about Brandon Hein and three other youths who were found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole in California, even though three of them never touched the weapon. Rebecca Lucile Schaeffer (November 6, 1967 – July 18, 1989) was an American actress and model. She began her career as a teen model before moving on to acting. In 1986, she landed the role of Patricia "Patti" Russell in the CBS comedy ''My Sister Sam''. The series was canceled in 1988, and she appeared in several films, including the black comedy ''Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills.'' At the age of 21, she was shot and killed by Robert John Bardo, a 19-year-old obsessed fan who had been stalking her. Robert John Bardo (born January 2, 1970) is an American man serving life imprisonment without parole after being convicted in October 1991 for the July 18, 1989, murder of American actress and model Rebecca Schaeffer, whom he had stalked for three years. Early life Bardo was the youngest of seven children. His mother was Japanese and his father Philip was a non-commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. The family moved frequently and eventually settled in Tucson, Arizona, in 1983. Bardo reportedly had a troubled childhood. The Last Mile (TLM) provides in-prison technology education and post-incarceration mentorship to justice-involved people across the United States.
