Ironman Australia
The Ironman Australia is a yearly triathlon in May covering the Ironman distance (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.195 km running) on the East Coast of Australia. The event has been held in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, NSW since 2006 and prior to that it was held in Forster-Tuncurry, Forster / Tuncurry area. Organization The race is organised by World Triathlon Corporation, Ironman Oceania and is sanctioned by Triathlon Australia. The current Race Director is Kieran Burgess. Route The transition area is located in Westport Park. The swim course includes a single lap at the mouth of the Hastings River including two crossings of the flood control weir via stairs erected for the event at the northern end of the course. Port Macquarie is a coastal town in the local government area of Port Macquarie-Hastings. It is located on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, about north of Sydney, and south of Brisbane. Paul Ambrose
Paul Ambrose (11 October 1868 – 1 July 1941) was a Canadian organist, conductor, composer, and music educator who was primarily active in the United States. His compositional output includes more than 200 songs, choral pieces, and works for solo piano and organ. Melanie Burke
Melanie Burke is an athlete from New Zealand. She has been a national champion or New Zealand representative in rowing, road running, cycling, duathlon, and Ironman triathlon. Burke grew up on a farm in near Whanganui, New Zealand. She moved to Auckland in 2001. In her early sports career Burke specialised in rowing. By age 24, she had placed fourth and fifth in the coxless fours at consecutive world championships. She was invited to trial for the 2004 Summer Olympics team, however in the absence of a coxless fours event, she decided to move into athletics and running instead. Burke ran, and won, a number of marathons before Bike New Zealand approached her to trial as a road cyclist. Caroline Steffen
Caroline Steffen (born 18 September 1978) is a professional triathlete from Switzerland. She is the winner of the 2010 and 2012 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships and took second at the 2010 and 2012 Ironman World Championship. Before competing as a professional triathlete she was a member of the Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team. Career Steffen was born in Spiez and began her early competitive career as a swimmer. She enjoyed success as a swimmer competing on the Swiss junior and senior national teams and winning multiple national titles. In 2002, Steffen underwent shoulder surgery and would eventually retire from competitive swimming afterwards. Chris McCormack (triathlete)
Chris McCormack (born 4 April 1973), also known as Macca, is an Australian triathlete. McCormack is a two-time winner of the Ironman World Championship, winning the titles in 2007 and 2010. He is also the winner of the 1997 International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup Series, the 1997 Triathlon World Championships, and the 2012 Long Distance World Championships. Early life McCormack's early athletic career began in primary school where he participated in many team sports. He joined the school's soccer and rugby teams. Craig Alexander (born 22 June 1973) is an Australian triathlete who is the 2008, 2009 & 2011 Ironman Triathlon World Champion. He was the course record holder for the Ironman World Championship.
