Ironi Ofakim F.C.
Ironi Ofakim was an Israeli football club based in Ofakim. History The club was founded before the 1996–97 season and was placed in Liga Bet, replacing Hapoel Ofakim. In 2001 the club won the South B division and was promoted to Liga Alef, then fourth tier. During that season the club also qualified to the 9th round of the State Cup, losing 2–7 to Maccabi Tel Aviv. The club played in Liga Alef for the next seven seasons, finishing as runners-up in 2004–05. in 2007 the club was due to fold, as the city council withdrew its financial support of the club. However, the club continued operating for another season upon voluntary basis and at the end of the 2007–08 the club finished bottom of the league and folded. Liga Alef
Liga Alef ( he, ליגה א', , League A) is the third tier of the Israeli football league system. It is divided into two regional divisions, north and south. History League football began in Israel in 1949–50, a year after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. However, the financial and security crises gripping the young nation caused the 1950–51 season to be abandoned before it had started. When football resumed in 1951–52, the new top division went by the name of Liga Alef. The 1952–53 season was also not played, and Liga Alef resumed in 1953–54. In the 1955–56 season, Liga Leumit came into existence as the new top division, with Liga Alef becoming the second division. In the summer of 1976, restructuring saw the creation of Liga Artzit as a new second tier, and the second demotion of Liga Alef, as it became the third division. The 2004–2005 Liga Alef season saw Maccabi Tzur Shalom (champions of the North Division) and Hapoel Bnei Lod (champions of the South Division) winning the title and promotion to 2005–06. At the bottom, Hapoel Tuba, Maccabi Tur'an (from North division), Hapoel Qalansawe and Hapoel Jaljulia (from South division) were all automatically relegated to Liga Bet. Liga Gimel
Liga Gimel ( he, ליגה ג', lit. ''League C'') is the fifth and bottom division of Israeli Football League, a position it has held since 2009. From Liga Alef and downwards to this, each league is separated by region as well. History Liga Gimel was first established in 1951 as a third division, below Liga Alef and Liga Bet. In 1955, after designating the first tier as Liga Leumit, Liga Gimel was demoted to the fourth tier. Further demotions followed in 1976, after the second tier Liga Artzit to the fifth tier and in 1999, after the establishment of Liga Ha'Al to the sixth tier. At the end of the 2008–09 season, Liga Artzit was scrapped and Liga Gimel was brought up back to the fifth tier. The Israeli football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for club football in Israel. The system has a hierarchical format with promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels, and allows even the smallest club to dream of rising to the very top of the system. There are five levels, containing a total of 16 divisions. It is run by the Israel Football Association (IFA). Structure The top division of Israeli football is the Premier League. The Betar Movement ( he, תנועת בית"ר), also spelled Beitar (), is a Revisionist Zionist youth movement founded in 1923 in Riga, Latvia, by Vladimir (Ze'ev) Jabotinsky. Chapters sprang up across Europe, even during World War II. After the war and during the settlement of what became Israel, Betar was traditionally linked to the original Herut and then Likud political parties of Jewish pioneers. It was closely affiliated with the pre-Israel Revisionist Zionist paramilitary group Irgun Zevai Leumi. It was one of many right-wing movements and youth groups arising at that time that adopted special salutes and uniforms. The 2007–08 Liga Alef season saw Hapoel Umm al-Fahm (champions of the North Division) and Maccabi Ironi Bat Yam (champions of the South Division) winning the title and promotion to Liga Artzit. The 2000–01 Israel State Cup ( he, גביע המדינה, ''Gvia HaMedina'') was the 62nd season of Israel's nationwide football cup competition and the 47th after the Israeli Declaration of Independence.
