Iron Road Railways
Iron Road Railways Incorporated (IRR) was a railroad holding company which owned several short line railroads in the U.S. state of Maine, as well as the Canadian provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. IRR was formed in 1994 and headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. Its president was Robert T. Schmidt and officers included Benjamin F. Collins, John F. DePodesta, and Daniel Sabin. IRR owned the following subsidiaries: Subsidiaries * Canadian American Railroad (CDAC) which operated between Brownville Junction, Maine and Lennoxville, Quebec. The line from Brownville Junction to Lennoxville was a former CP Rail mainline consisting of the Moosehead and Megantic subdivisions; at the time of acquisition it was operated by CP Rail as the Canadian Atlantic Railway. Canadian Atlantic Railway
The Canadian Atlantic Railway (CAR) was a Canadian and U.S. railway that existed from 1988 to 1994. The CAR was created in September 1988 as a business unit of CP Rail (CPR) to serve the Maritime Provinces and state of Maine. Its creation was predated by several years of declining traffic during the 1980s on CPR's eastern mainline from Montreal to Saint John and its supporting branchlines. The assets of CAR were sold or abandoned in stages and the company ceased to exist December 31, 1994 as CP Rail exited eastern Canada and at the same time ceased to be a transcontinental railway. Windsor is a community located in Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is a service centre for the western part of the county and is situated on Highway 101. New Minas is a village located in the eastern part of Kings County in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. As of 2011, the population was 5,135. Windsor Junction is a suburban community in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is located approximately north west of Downtown Halifax and approximately north of the Bedford Basin near the communities of Fall River, Lower Sackville, and Waverley. Railway History The name of the community was established by the Nova Scotia Railway (NSR) in 1858 after a railway junction was located between Second and Third Lakes, north of the Bedford Basin. Houlton is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, on the Canada–United States border. As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 6,055. It is perhaps best known for being at the northern terminus of Interstate 95 and as the birthplace of Samantha Smith, a goodwill ambassador as a child during the Cold War. Caribou, Maine
Caribou is the second largest city in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. Its population was 7,396 at the 2020 census, and between the 2010 and 2020 census it was the fastest-shrinking city in Maine.
