Irma Karakis
Irma Yosypivna Karakis (4 November 1930 - 1 February 2022) was a Ukrainian Soviet architect, interior and furniture designer, candidate of architecture, winner of the gold medals of the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy of the USSR. Early life and education Irma Karakis was born on 4 November 1930 in Kyiv. Her father was Joseph Karakis (1902–1988), an architect. Her mother was Anna Karakis (née Kopman) (1904–1993). Karakis graduated from the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute in 1954. Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (russian: Выставка достижений народного хозяйства, ''Vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva'', abbreviated as VDNKh or VDNH, russian: ВДНХ, ) is a permanent general purpose trade show and amusement park in Moscow, Russia. Between 1991 and 2014, it was also called the All-Russia Exhibition Centre (russian: Всероссийский выставочный центр). It is a state joint-stock company. Location and transportation VDNKh is located in Ostankinsky District of Moscow, less than a kilometer from Ostankino Tower. It is served by VDNKh subway station, as well as by Moscow Monorail. Joseph Karakis (or ''Iosif Karakys''; uk, Йо́сип Ю́лійович Кара́кіс; 29 May 1902 – 23 February 1988) was a Ukrainians, Ukrainian Soviet Union, Soviet architect, urban planner, Painting, painter and teacher, and one of the most prolific Ukraininan Kyiv architects, designing many buildings that are now considered architectural landmarks. Jacob Steinberg
Jacob Steinberg (September 1, 1887– June 22, 1947) was a major Ukrainian-born poet in Mandatory Palestine. Biography Jacob Steinberg was born in Bila Tserkva, but ran off to Odessa when he was 14, joining Bialik and other Jewish intellectuals of the Hebrew literary circle there. In 1903 Steinberg moved to Warsaw, and participated in Peretz's literary circle. In 1910 he moved to Switzerland, studying in university at Bern and Lucerne. He soon returned to Warsaw. During those years, he published works in Hebrew and Yiddish, especially in the Yiddish newspaper "Der Fraind" (). While still in Europe, he married and divorced a dentist with whom he had one son. In 1914, Steinberg immigrated to Palestine, and wrote exclusively in Hebrew ever since. In 1929, he married Liza Arlosoroff, a musician, and sister of Haim Arlosoroff, and later edited Haim Arlosoroff's writings. Andriyivskyy Descent
Andrew's Descent ( uk, Андріївський узвіз, ) is a historic descent connecting Kyiv's Upper Town neighborhood and the historically commercial Podil neighborhood. The street, often advertised by tour guides and operators as the "Montmartre of Kyiv", is a major tourist attraction of the city. It is included in the list of national landmarks by the government resolution. In addition, the street is also part of the Kyiv city historic reserve " Ancient Kyiv", while the St.Andrew's Church belongs to the National historic reserve " Sophia of Kyiv".
