Irish Defence Forces School Of Music
The Irish Defence Forces School of Music (''Scoil Cheoil Óglaigh na hÉireann'') is established as a Corps of the Irish Defence Forces and has responsibility for the maintenance and training of the three military bands of the Defence Forces. It contains a directorate and a headquarters and three detached military bands. The 97 members of the three bands currently perform at approximately 500 state, military and civilian events annually. History The idea for an Army School of Music was first mooted in November 1922, when General Richard Mulcahy, the then Chief of Staff, said that he wanted to have bands "that will dispense music and musical understanding in the highest terms to the people". The first requirement was for expert military musicians to take on the task of training bands. Collins Barracks ( ga, Dún Uí Choileáin) is a barracks, military barracks on the Old Youghal Road on the north side of Cork (city), Cork in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Originally serving as a British Armed Forces, British military barracks from the early 19th century, it was handed-over to the Irish military following the Irish War of Independence, and remains the headquarters of the 1st Brigade (Ireland), 1st Brigade of the Irish Army. Beggars Bush Barracks
Beggars Bush Barracks was a British Army barracks located at Beggars Bush in Dublin, Ireland. History The barracks were designed as a training depot for the British Army and were completed in 1827, built on lands received from George Herbert, 11th Earl of Pembroke. Two squadrons of the South Irish Horse were formed at the barracks in the early 20th century. The squadrons were mobilised at the barracks in August 1914 before being deployed to the Western Front. Beggars Bush Barracks were the first barracks to be handed over to the Irish Republican Army in January 1922. The barracks then became the new headquarters of the National Army.
