Iris Unguicularis
''Iris unguicularis'' ( syn. ''Iris stylosa''), the Algerian iris, is a rhizomatous flowering plant in the genus ''Iris'', native to Greece, Turkey, Western Syria, and Tunisia. It grows to , with grassy evergreen leaves, producing pale lilac or purple flowers with a central band of yellow on the falls. The flowers appear in winter and early spring. They are fragrant, with pronounced perianth tubes up to long. This plant is widely cultivated in temperate regions, and numerous cultivars have been selected for garden use, including a slightly more tender white form 'Alba', and a dwarf variety ''I. unguicularis'' subsp. ''cretensis''. The cultivar 'Mary Barnard' has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Chemistry In 2013, a chemical analysis study was carried on '' Iris loczyi'' and ''Iris unguicularis'' as both plants are known as medicinally important. The rhizome of ''Iris unguicularis'' contains 1,3-O-diferuloylsucrose, 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxychro ...

Jean Louis Marie Poiret
Jean Louis Marie Poiret (11 June 1755 in Saint-Quentin7 April 1834 in Paris) was a French clergyman, botanist, and explorer. From 1785 to 1786, he was sent by Louis XVI to Algeria to study the flora. After the French Revolution, he became a professor of natural history at the Écoles Centrale of Aisne. The genus '' Poiretia'' of the legume family Fabaceae was named after him in 1807 by Étienne Pierre Ventenat. Iris Loczyi
''Iris loczyi'' is a beardless iris in the genus ''Iris'', in the subgenus '' Limniris'' and in the series '' Tenuifoliae'' of the genus. It is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial, from a wide area of Asia, including Afghanistan, Iran (the mountainous parts of Pakistan), Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Tibet and China. It has long thin grey green leaves, long stems and 1 flower in pale violet, blue violet, lavender or light blue. Description It was once thought to be a form of ''Iris tenuifolia'', especially in China. It has a slender, fibrous, knobbly or gnarled, brown-black rhizome. It forms hard thick, tussocks or clumps of plants. On top of the rhizome are maroon-brown, fibrous (or straw-like), remnants (of last seasons leaves), as sheaths (of the new leaves). It has long and thin, linear, green-grey leaves, measuring long and 2-5mm wide. The leaves are sometimes evergreen. It has flower stems, that are long. They are sometimes only just above the ground level. It has 3 ...

Mangiferin
Mangiferin is a glucosylxanthone (xanthonoid). This molecule is a glucoside of norathyriol. Natural occurrences Mangiferin was first isolated from the leaves and bark of ''Mangifera indica'' (the mango tree). It can also be extracted from mango peels and kernels, ''Iris unguicularis'', ''Anemarrhena asphodeloides'' rhizomes and ''Bombax ceiba'' leaves. It is also found in the genera '' Salacia'' and ''Cyclopia'', as well as in coffee leaves and some species of ''Crocus''. Among the group of '' Asplenium hybrids'' known as the "Appalachian ''Asplenium'' complex", mangiferin and isomangiferin are produced only by ''Asplenium montanum'' and its hybrid descendants. The distinctive gold-orange fluorescence of these compounds under ultraviolet light has been used to aid in the chromatographic identification of hybrid ''Asplenium''s. Research Preliminary research is conducted on the potential biological properties of mangiferin, although there are no confirmed anti-disease eff ...
