Iris Prize
The Iris Prize, established in by Berwyn Rowlands of The Festivals Company, is an international LGBT film prize and festival which is open to any film which is by, for, about or of interest to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex audiences and which must have been completed within two years of the prize deadline. The prize is open to filmmakers from around the world and judged by a panel of international filmmakers and artists. The winner receives the largest prize for a gay and lesbian film in the world—a package valued at £30,000—allowing the winner to make their next film. It is awarded during an annual festival held in Cardiff that presents a programme of screenings including the competing films, several feature films, panel sessions with visiting filmmakers and culminates in a closing night award ceremony. Berwyn Rowlands
John Berwyn Rowlands (born September 1966) is a Welsh creative producer who founded and continues to lead the Iris Prize LGBT+ Film Festival. Previously he was chief executive of Sgrîn, Media Agency of Wales from 1997 to 2006 and director of the Welsh International Film Festival from 1989 to 1997. Early life In 1978 Rowlands was the youngest person to establish a local group (Aelwyd) of the Welsh youth voluntary organisation Urdd Gobaith Cymru. Aelwyd Llangoed met in the primary school until 1983. While a pupil at Ysgol David Hughes, Rowlands established the school magazine ''San''. Rowlands moved to Aberystwyth in 1986. While in Aberystwyth he established the theatre-in-education company Cwmni Cadwyn which toured his play ''Dwirnod Olaf Elfyd Wyn Roberts 17 Blwyddyn Oed'' commissioned by British Institute for Traffic Education Research (BITER). Red Woods
Red is the color at the long wavelength end of the visible spectrum of light, next to orange and opposite violet. It has a dominant wavelength of approximately 625–740 nanometres. Dionne Edwards
Dionne Edwards is a British filmmaker and screenwriter, of mixed Jamaican and Nigerian heritage, best known for her short film ''We Love Moses''. Early life Whilst growing up Edwards spent time in the foster care system. Edwards studied film and TV production at the University of Westminster, following which she spent a year working at Working Title Films as a Working Title Action! Intern. Plot summary James (Niall Wright) is a withdrawn and secretive teenager, coming from a family with long-buried secrets. With no friends and a refusal to confide with his parents (Margaret Goodman and Gerry Doherty), he faces an inner battle as he comes to terms with his sexuality. Grant Scicluna
Grant Scicluna (born in 1980) is an Australian film director and writer. best known for his work on ''The Wilding'' which won the Iris Prize in 2012, and the feature film Downriver. He is a graduate of RMIT, RMIT University School of Media and Communications in Melbourne. Scicluna directed the Iris Prize short film ''Hurt's Rescue'' which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2014. In 2015, Scicluna made his feature debut with the Screen Australia backed ''Downriver (film), Downriver'' which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival before playing at Toronto International Film Festival, with an Australian cinema release following.
