Iris Miriam Ruíz
Iris Miriam Ruiz Class (born January 29, 1951) is a Puerto Rican politician who served in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives and currently holds the office of Ombudswoman. Ruiz, a member of the New Progressive Party, served as At-Large Representative from 1997 to 2010 and as Chairwoman of the New Progressive Party Women's Organization from 2002 to 2010. She was designated by Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuño as the Puerto Rico Ombudsman or "Ombudswoman" in March 2010. A former television reporter, she is married to former Representative Roberto Cruz Rodríguez, a member of the opposition Popular Democratic Party. Puerto Rico Ombudsman
The Puerto Rico Ombudsman (In Spanish also ) is a government position created by statute in 1977 during the administration of Governor Carlos Romero Barceló to provide citizens with an office that could receive and investigate complaints regarding the proper functioning of government agencies and the level of service to the public. The Ombudsman is appointed by the Governor of Puerto Rico to a ten-year term and requires the advice and consent of both the Senate and the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico. The Ombudsman's salary is equal to that of a Court of Appeals judge, currently $105,000 per year. In 2020 Puerto Rico governor Wanda Vázquez Garced nominated Edwin Garcia Feliciano as Ombudsman. ''El Nuevo Día'' (English: ''The New Day'') is the newspaper with the largest circulation in Puerto Rico. It was founded in 1909 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and today it is a subsidiary of GFR Media. Its headquarters are in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. History El Dia El Nuevo Día was founded in 1909 in the city of Ponce as "El Diario de Puerto Rico," later changing its name to "El Día" in 1911, a name it kept for nearly seven decades.
