Irene Spencer
Irene Spencer (née Kunz, February 1, 1937 - March 12, 2017) was an American author and a widow of Verlan LeBaron, brother of former prophet Joel LeBaron of the Church of the Firstborn of the Fulness of Times, a fundamentalist Mormon offshoot. Early life Irene Golda Kunz was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 1, 1937,Shattered Dreams: My Life as a Polygamist's Wife by Irene Spencer one of 31 children born to polygamist Morris Kunz. She was the fifth generation of her family to live in polygamy. Her ancestors were members of the LDS Church who believed that they could not attain the highest rewards of heaven unless they were in plural marriages. When the LDS Church banned the practice of polygamy, her family refused to abandon their beliefs and became fundamentalist Mormons. Susan Ray Schmidt
Susan Ray Schmidt ( née Ray, born 1953) is an American author, activist and lecturer, notable for her memoir and anti-polygamy activism. Schmidt's memoir, ''Favorite Wife: Escape from Polygamy'', describes the abuses she suffered while practicing polygamy and adopts a firm anti-polygamy stance. LeBaron Family
The Church of the Firstborn (or the "LeBarón family") is a grouping of competing factions of a Mormon fundamentalist religious lineage inherited, adherents believe, by a polygamous family community that had settled in Chihuahua, Mexico, by Alma Dayer LeBaron Sr. by 1924. Factions accepting leadership succession by some of Alma Dayer LeBaron Sr.'s sons self-describe as members of the Church of the Firstborn, without a legally formalized organization. What became over time the most substantial faction is that of Church of the Firstborn of the Fulness of Times, often shortened as the ''Church of the Firstborn,'' which was founded in September 1955 by three of Alma's sons, Joel, R. Born-again Christian
Born again, or to experience the new birth, is a phrase, particularly in evangelicalism, that refers to a "spiritual rebirth", or a regeneration of the human spirit. In contrast to one's physical birth, being "born again" is distinctly and separately caused by baptism in the Holy Spirit, it is not caused by baptism in water. It is a core doctrine of the denominations of the Anabaptist, Moravian, Methodist, Quaker, Baptist, Plymouth Brethren and Pentecostal Churches along with all other evangelical Christian denominations. Blood atonement is a disputed doctrine in the history of Mormonism, under which the atonement of Jesus does not redeem an eternal sin. To atone for an eternal sin, the sinner should be killed in a way that allows his blood to be shed upon the ground as a sacrificial offering, so he does not become a son of perdition.
