The Islamic Consultative Assembly ( fa, مجلس شورای اسلامی, Majles-e Showrā-ye Eslāmī), also called the Iranian Parliament, the Iranian Majles (Arabicised spelling Majlis) or ICA, is the national legislative body of Iran. The Parliament currently consists of 290 representatives, an increase from the previous 272 seats since the 18 February 2000 election. The Democracy Party (Persian: or ''Hezb e Mardomsālāri'') is an Iranian reformist political party that was formed by activists with a mission to preserve the Reformist message of former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami. Initially, the party began by university student activists across the cities of Iran's Semnan Province who understood that the reformist movement in Iran needed to build a true grassroots political party that spans the county, provincial, and national level. He has formerly represented Semnan and Mehdishahr in the parliament from 2008 until 2012. Early life Kavakebian was born in Semnan on 18 March 1963.
