Iran National Baseball Team
The Iran national baseball team ( fa, تیم ملی بیسبال ایران) is the national baseball team of Iran. The team represents Iran in international competitions. History Iran baseball committee was founded in 1992. In 1993 it became a federation and continued to function as a federation until 2010, when it became part of Sports Associations Federation. This was largely caused by the inactivity of its national team. Currently Baseball is played in 12 Provinces in Iran. Iran has one stadium specifically designed for baseball in the city of Karaj. From 1994 until 2009, every year teams representing their provinces participated in a national championship. In 2010, the National Championship games were replaced by a Club Championship League. Club teams were split into a North and South conference with the top two teams in each conference advancing to the playoffs. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. The game occurs over the course of several plays, with each play generally beginning when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball that a player on the batting team, called the batter, tries to hit with a bat. The objective of the offensive team (batting team) is to hit the ball into the field of play, away from the other team's players, allowing its players to run the bases, having them advance counter-clockwise around four bases to score what are called " runs". The objective of the defensive team (referred to as the fielding team) is to prevent batters from becoming runners, and to prevent runners' advance around the bases.
