Ira M. Lish
Ira M. Lish (June 16, 1855 – June 15, 1937) was an American politician and businessman. Lish was born in Essex, Kankakee County, Illinois. He went to the public schools. He was involved with the banking and mercantile business in Saunemin, Illinois. Lish served on the Livingston County Board of Supervisors and on the Saunemin Village Board. He was a Republican. Essex is a village in Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. The population was 802 at the 2010 census, up from 554 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Kankakee-Bradley, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Ira M. Lish (1855–1937), Illinois politician and lawyer, was born in Essex. Unlike earlier underground coal mines exploited by coal miners living in the now lost, nearby settlements of Tracy, Oklahoma and Clarke City, open-pit mines were established near Essex. Kankakee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 113,449. Its county seat is Kankakee. Kankakee County comprises the Kankakee, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Starting in the 1770s, if not earlier, the area that is now Kankakee County was largely populated by the Pottawatami. French Canadian Settlers came to Kankakee County in 1834, after the federal government signed the Treaty of Camp Tippecanoe in 1832. They were soon joined by migrants from New York and Vermont, mostly locating in Momence, Illinois. In the 1840s, most of the migrants were French Canadians or Metis and they settled in such places as Bourbonnais.
