Geography It is located at a latitude of 28º49'12" south and a longitude of 51º16'45" west, with an altitude of 750 meters. It has an area of 599.36 km2 and its estimated population in 2022 was 5,325 inhabitants. Ipê is one of the municipalities located in the Região da Uva e Vinho, where there is a significant presence of vineyards in the southern part of the municipality. The Igreja Matriz São Luiz Rei is a Catholic Church, Catholic church located in Ipê, Rio Grande do Sul, Ipê, Brazil. History In 1835, led by Emílio Subtil de Camargo, residents of Ipê, Rio Grande do Sul, Ipê (then called Ipê, Rio Grande do Sul#Nomenclatures, Formigueiro) went to Porto Alegre to seek the creation of a parish with Archbishop D. João Becker. The church was built between 1840 and 1880, on a piece of land donated by the widow of Luiz Augusto de Medeiros Branco. She imposed the condition that the patron saint of the church would be Louis IX of France, Saint Louis, King of France, in honor of her late husband and because Saint Louis was the family's patron saint. The initial version was constructed using pine wood, a prevalent tree in the region. On March 10, 1936, the Archbishop recognized the church as the Parish of São Luiz de França, attached to the Prelature of Vacaria. Ernesto Zaffonato or Frei Casimiro Zaffonato (August 12, 1912 – June 11, 1988, Antônio Prado, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) was a Brazilian Catholic priest and educator, recognized for his contributions to education and community development in Ipê, Rio Grande do Sul. Biography Ernesto Zaffonato was born in Antônio Prado on August 12, 1912. He entered religious life in 1929, professing his religious vows at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Convent in Flores da Cunha. In 1937, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Frei Cândido Maria Bampi. Frei Casimiro became a significant figure for Ipê, where he served as Parish Priest for 23 years, starting in 1964, at the Mother Church. In the mid-1960s, recognizing the need for educational facilities, Frei Casimiro was one of the main proponents of founding the Vila Ipê State Gymnasium. Talian (, ), or Brazilian Venetian, or Vêneto is a Venetian dialect spoken primarily in the Serra Gaúcha region in the northeast of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, as well as in other parts of Rio Grande do Sul, and in parts of Espírito Santo and of Santa Catarina.
