Ipswich (MBTA Station)
Ipswich station is an MBTA Commuter Rail station in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Located in downtown Ipswich, it serves the Newburyport/Rockport Line. The station is handicapped accessible, with a mini-high platform on the northern end of the platform. The former Boston and Maine Railroad station building was demolished by 1962. Ipswich was the terminus of the line from April 1976, when the lone remaining round trip to Newburyport station was cut, until full service was restored on October 26, 1998. Just south of the end of the platform are two auxiliary tracks that were used to store trains during that time. Ipswich is a coastal town in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 13,785 at the 2020 census. Eastern Railroad
The Eastern Railroad was a railroad connecting Boston, Massachusetts to Portland, Maine. Throughout its history, it competed with the Boston and Maine Railroad for service between the two cities, until the Boston & Maine put an end to the competition by leasing the Eastern in December 1884. Newburyport/Rockport Line
The Newburyport/Rockport Line is a branch of the MBTA Commuter Rail system, running northeast from downtown Boston, Massachusetts towards Cape Ann and the Merrimack Valley, serving the North Shore. The first leg, operating via the Eastern Route of the former Boston and Maine Railroad, serves Chelsea, Lynn, Swampscott, Salem, and Beverly. The Boston and Maine Railroad was a U.S. Class I railroad in northern New England. Originally chartered in 1835, it became part of what was the Pan Am Railways network in 1983 (most of which was purchased by CSX in 2022). Newburyport station is an MBTA Commuter Rail station in Newburyport, Massachusetts. It is located between Parker Street and U.S. Route 1 south of downtown Newburyport, and serves the Newburyport/Rockport Line. The station is the terminus of the Newburyport Branch of the line, with three parking lots totalling over 800 spaces. Crane Beach
Crane Beach is a conservation and recreation property located in Ipswich, Massachusetts, immediately north of Cape Ann. It consists of a four-mile-long (6 km) sandy beachfront, dunes, and a maritime pitch pine forest. Five and a half miles of hiking trails through the dunes and forest are accessible from the beachfront. Crane Beach is open year-round, and is free to Ipswich residents with the purchase of a yearly beach parking sticker. Non-residents must pay a fee to enter ($40 on weekends during peak season for a car, as of August 2021). In the summer months there is a refreshment bar, and the restrooms, showers and changing facilities are open year-round.
