Iowa Valley Community School District
The Iowa Valley Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Marengo, Iowa. The district spans areas of north-central Iowa County, including the town of Marengo, and the unincorporated area of Koszta, Iowa. The school district is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Iowa Department of Education. The district is a member of the South Iowa Cedar League conference. The mascot for both schools is the Tigers, and the school colors are orange and black. , the district shares a superintendent with the English Valleys Community School District. Marengo is a town in and the county seat of Iowa County, Iowa, United States. It has served as the county seat since August 1845, even though it was not incorporated until July 1859. Del Miller
Del Miller (born November 6, 1950) is a former American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Southwest Missouri State University—now known as Missouri State University—from 1995 to 1998, compiling a record of 21–23. Miller was a longtime assistant to Kansas State University under head coach Bill Snyder. He was the first assistant hired by Snyder in 1989, and has served three separate stints with the program. ''The Des Moines Register'' is the daily morning newspaper of Des Moines, Iowa. History Early period The first newspaper in Des Moines was the ''Iowa Star''. In July 1849, Barlow Granger began the paper in an abandoned log cabin by the junction of the Des Moines and Raccoon River. Sprint Medley Relay
The sprint medley relay (SMR) is a track and field event in which teams of four athletes compete over sprinting distances as part of a relay race. Unlike most track relays, each member of the team runs a different distance. The sprint medley is rather uncommon, run most frequently at non-championship track meets which are focused on relays. Since these are not championship events, specific criteria for the event are not in common rulebooks. This leads to localized variations. Sprint medley usually consists of two shorter sprints, followed by two single longer events. Usual conduct for safety is to run the shorter events first, in lanes to allow faster moving sprinters to exchange without interference. And faster moving athletes will have a more consistent tempo to prepare a handoff than with longer sprinters who are more prone to decelerate inconsistently as they finish their leg. 1600 Meters
1600 meters is a middle distance track and field running event. It is a standardized event in track meets conducted by the NFHS in American high school competition. When the organization went through metrication, finalized with their 1980 rule book, the 4 lap around a 440 yard, Imperial measured mile run, was replaced by the closest metric distance, 4 laps around a 400 meter track. That decision is not without controversy. The race is 9.344 meters shorter. Other organizations have followed the lead of the IAAF and use the 1500 meters as the closest equivalent. The current male high school record holder in the 1600 is Alan Webb from South Lakes High School in Reston, Virginia. 400 Metres Hurdles
The 400 metres hurdles is a track and field hurdling event. The event has been on the Olympic athletics programme since 1900 for men and since 1984 for women. On a standard outdoor track, 400 metres is the length of the inside lane, once around the stadium. Runners stay in their lanes the entire way after starting out of the blocks and must clear ten hurdles that are evenly spaced around the track. The hurdles are positioned and weighted so that they fall forward if bumped into with sufficient force, to prevent injury to the runners. Although there is no longer any penalty for knocking hurdles over, runners prefer to clear them cleanly, as touching them during the race slows runners down. The best male athletes can run the 400 m hurdles in a time of around 46 seconds, while the very best female athletes achieve a time of around 51 seconds. The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a group are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". 110 Metres Hurdles
The 110 metres hurdles, or 110-metre hurdles, is a hurdling track and field event for men. It is included in the athletics programme at the Summer Olympic Games. The female counterpart is the 100 metres hurdles. As part of a racing event, ten hurdles of in height are evenly spaced along a straight course of 110 metres. They are positioned so that they will fall over if bumped into by the runner. Fallen hurdles do not carry a fixed time penalty for the runners, but they have a significant pull-over weight which slows down the run. Iowa High School Athletic Association
The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations. Its female counterpart, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, (IGHSAU) is an associate member. Iowa is the only state that maintains separate governing bodies for boys' and girls' athletics.
