Iowa State Cyclones Women's Basketball
The Iowa State Cyclones women's basketball team represents Iowa State University (ISU) and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I. The team is coached by Bill Fennelly, who is in his 28th year at Iowa State. The Cyclones play their home games at Hilton Coliseum on Iowa State's campus. Overview Iowa State University is known for having one of the best women's basketball programs in the nation. Since the founding of the Big 12 in 1996, ISU has had only three losing seasons, has won three conference titles (1 regular season, 3 tournament), and has the best conference tournament record in the Big 12. Big 12 Conference
The Big 12 Conference is a college athletic conference headquartered in Irving, Texas, USA. It consists of ten full-member universities. It is a member of Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for all sports. Its football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS; formerly Division I-A), the higher of two levels of NCAA Division I football competition. The Big 12 Conference sponsors championships in 23 sports, 10 men's and 13 women's. The first conference championship awarded was the 1996 softball postseason tournament championship, which was won by Oklahoma. From 2011 through 2016, the football champion was decided by regular-season play. Big 12 Conference Women's Basketball Tournament
The Big 12 Conference women's basketball tournament is the championship women's basketball tournament in the Big 12 Conference. It is a single-elimination tournament of four rounds, with the top four seeds getting byes in the first round until 2011. Beginning in 2012 the bottom four teams play First Round games to advance to the Quarterfinals against the top six teams. Seeding is based on regular season records. The Tournament has been held every year since 1997, except in 2020 when it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Oklahoma Sooners Women's Basketball
The Oklahoma Sooners women's basketball team represents the University of Oklahoma (OU) and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I. History OU women's basketball began during the 1974–75 academic year. In March 1990, Oklahoma officials released a statement saying that the women's basketball program was to be dropped, after many years of sub-par performance and low attendance. Many people voiced their complaints and eight days later, OU reinstated the program. At the time, the average attendance per game was 65 people. In 1996, Oklahoma hired former Norman High School women's basketball coach Sherri Coale to the same position at the university.
