The 40th District of the Iowa Senate is located in eastern Iowa, and is currently composed of part of Linn County, Iowa, Linn County. Mariannette Miller-Meeks
Mariannette Jane Miller-Meeks (born September 6, 1955) is an American physician and politician serving as the U.S. representative from Iowa's 2nd congressional district since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, Miller-Meeks served as Iowa state senator for the 41st district from 2019 to 2021. Her district includes most of Iowa's southeastern quadrant, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Burlington, Iowa City, and Miller-Meeks's hometown of Ottumwa. Miller-Meeks ran three unsuccessful campaigns for the U.S. House against Dave Loebsack. When Loebsack retired in 2020, she ran again and defeated Rita Hart by a margin of six votes. Jerry Behn
Jerry Behn (born January 31, 1954) is an American politician who served as a member of the Iowa Senate for the 24th district from 1997 to 2021. Career Behn served as a Boone County supervisor from 1995 to 1996. Behn served on the Senate Appropriations committee; the Senate Commerce committee; the Senate State Government committee; the Senate Environment & Energy Independence committee, and the Senate Ethics committee. Albert Sorensen
Albert "Al" Sorensen (born February 19, 1932) served as a Democratic Iowa State Senator from 1991 to 1997. He joined the Senate after winning a special election in 1991, his predecessor, Jack Nystrom (R- Boone), having resigned to serve on the Iowa Liquor Commission. He won re-election in 1992, but lost in 1996 to Republican Jerry Behn. During his second term in the Senate, Sorensen served on several committees in the Iowa Senate - the Agriculture committee; the Natural Resources, Environment and Energy committee; the Small Business, Economic Development & Tourism committee; the State Government committee; and the Local Government committee, where he was the chair. Elizabeth Orr Shaw (October 2, 1923 – July 23, 2014) was an American lawyer and politician. A Republican, she served in the Iowa House of Representatives for the 43rd district from 1967 to 1971 and for the 78th district from 1971 to 1973.
