Lower House
A lower house is one of two Debate chamber, chambers of a Bicameralism, bicameral legislature, the other chamber being the upper house. Iowa
Iowa () is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States, bordered by the Mississippi River to the east and the Missouri River and Big Sioux River to the west. Robert Henderson (American Politician)
Robert Henderson is an American politician. Early career Henderson moved to Sioux City, Iowa, in 1989, to accept an assistant coaching position for the Morningside Mustangs football team. He subsequently worked for Penn Corp Financial, before teaching within the Sioux City Community School District. Political career Henderson worked for Chuck Grassley as a regional director. He contested a Sioux City School Board election in 2015. This was Henderson's first candidacy for public office. He finished seventh of seven candidates. Shortly after the election, board member Paul Speidel resigned his seat, and Henderson was one of five candidates considered for appointment to the board. Former board member John Meyers was eventually selected. Henderson campaigned for the District 14 seat in the Iowa House of Representatives in 2016 and 2018, losing both times to Tim Kacena. Iowa General Assembly
The Iowa General Assembly is the legislative branch of the state government of Iowa. Like the federal United States Congress, the General Assembly is a bicameral body, composed of the upper house Iowa Senate and the lower Iowa House of Representatives respectively. The Senate consists of four year terms and the House consists of two year terms. The General Assembly convenes within the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines. Composition The Iowa General Assembly consists of 50 senators and 100 representatives. Each senator represents about 60,927 people and each representative about 30,464 people . Woodbury County, Iowa
Woodbury County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 105,941, making it the sixth-most populous county in Iowa. The county seat is Sioux City. Woodbury County is included in the Sioux City metropolitan area. History Originally established in 1851 as Wahkaw County, the Iowa Legislature in 1853 changed the name to Woodbury County in honor of Levi Woodbury (1789–1851), a senator and governor of New Hampshire who served as a Supreme Court justice from 1844 until his death. The first county seat of Wahkaw County was the now-extinct village of Thompsonville; when the Legislature changed the county name to Woodbury, the new county seat became Sergeant's Bluff (now Sergeant Bluff). William Orville Douglas (October 16, 1898January 19, 1980) was an American jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, who was known for his strong progressive and civil libertarian views, and is often cited as the U.S. Supreme Court's most liberal justice ever. In 1975, ''Time'' called Douglas "the most doctrinaire and committed civil libertarian ever to sit on the court." He is the longest-serving justice in history, with his term lasting 36 years and 211 days (1939–1975). Nominated by President Franklin D. Al Sturgeon
Al Sturgeon (born 14 February 1956) is an American lawyer and former politician. Early life and political career Al Sturgeon is a native of Sioux City, Iowa, born on 14 February 1956. He graduated from East High School and Morningside College in his hometown. Sturgeon was then employed as a consultant to the Northwest Regional Library, and also worked in production for the Continental Baking Company for six and a half years before winning his first statewide legislative election in 1980, representing District 51 of the Iowa House of Representatives as a Democrat. Sturgeon subsequently won reelection to House District 2 in 1982 and 1984. During his third consecutive term as state representative, Sturgeon began attending the University of Iowa College of Law. Sturgeon was elected to the first of two terms on the Iowa Senate in 1986 and completed his Juris Doctor degree in 1989. Steven Henning "Steve" Warnstadt (born August 2, 1967) was the Iowa State Senator from the 1st District. A Democrat, he has served in the Iowa Senate from 2003 until 2011. He received his BA from Drake University and his MA from Temple University, and is serving as an adjunct instructor with Western Iowa Tech Community College and as an intelligence officer with the Iowa Army National Guard. Warnstadt served on several committees in the Iowa Senate: the Appropriations committee; the Judiciary committee; the Transportation committee; the Veterans Affairs committee, where he is vice chair; and the Commerce committee, where he is chair.
