Iowa Highway 4 (Iowa 4) is a state highway which runs from north to south across the state of Iowa. It is long, beginning at an intersection with Iowa Highway 44 in Panora and ending at the Minnesota state line north of Estherville. It continues north as Minnesota State Highway 4. The route was created on January 1, 1969, when several route designations were changed to match other states' route numbers. Before 1969, Iowa 4 was known as Iowa 17. Route description Iowa Highway 4 begins at Panora at Iowa 44. It goes north and is briefly overlapped with Iowa Highway 141 north of Yale. Iowa Highway 141 (Iowa 141) is an east–west highway in the western and central portions of the state. It is the most direct link between Sioux City and Des Moines. It also serves as a freeway link between Des Moines and the outlying communities of Perry, Granger, and Grimes. Iowa 141's begins near Sloan at an interchange with Interstate 29 (I-29) at ends at another interchange with I-35 / I-80 on the edge of the Des Moines suburbs of Urbandale and Grimes. Graettinger, Iowa
Graettinger is a city in Palo Alto County, Iowa, United States. The population was 832 at the time of the 2020 census. History Graettinger got its start in the 1880s, following construction of the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway through that territory. The land was originally owned by Dr. Alois Graettinger, a German physician who had immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He gave the land to the railway under the condition that the town were to be named after him. Members of the Graettinger family still live in the town. They are descendants of Dr. Graettinger's brother, Blasius, who was a stone cutter by trade but moved to Iowa to farm. Graettinger is the location of the oldest Labor Day celebration in the state of Iowa. Iowa Highway 10 (Iowa 10) is a state highway that runs across the state of Iowa. It begins where South Dakota Highway 46 crosses the Big Sioux River into Iowa north of Hawarden. Pomeroy is a city in Calhoun County, Iowa, United States. The population was 526 at the time of the 2020 census. History Pomeroy was platted in 1870 in anticipation of the railroad being built through the settlement. It was named for Charles Pomeroy, an Iowa politician. On July 6, 1893, Pomeroy was struck by a tornado that was later estimated to be F5 on the Fujita scale. With a damage path wide and long, the tornado destroyed about 80% of the homes in Pomeroy.
