Iouik
Iouik, also spelled Iwik, is a coastal town in western Mauritania. Located in the Banc d'Arguin National Park within the Dakhlet Nouadhibou region, it sits on a small peninsula. Nearby towns and villages include Uad Guenifa (73.4 nm), Cansado (72.0 nm), Tanoudert (21.5 nm), Akjoujt (108.4 nm), El Mamghar (32.4 nm), Regbet Thila (28.6 nm) and Tikattane (50.1 nm) . Dakhlet Nouadhibou Region
Dakhlet Nouadhibou Region ( ar, ولاية داخلة نواذيبو, ''Wilayat Dakhlet Nouadhibou'', "Interior Nouadhibou Region") is an administrative division of Mauritania. Its regional capital is Nouadhibou, which is located at its northwestern end and is home to nearly 95% of the region's population. The rest of the shoreline is sparsely populated with villages, but the east of the region is mostly uninhabited. Cansado ( ar, كانصادو) is a coastal town in north-western Mauritania on the Ras Nouadhibou peninsula. It is located in the Nouadhibou Department in the Dakhlet Nouadhibou region. It was built from scratch in the early 1960s for the staff administering the port and railhead for the iron ore mining company MIFERMA (Societe Anonyme des Mines de Fer de Mauritanie) as part of their iron mine development project at Zouérate. Kiaone
Kiaone are two offshore sandy islets in the Bay of Arguin, Mauritania, the islet is very small. The large islet is 1.2 km to 300 meters long and 12 to 15 meters wide, the smaller one named Petite Kiaone is 450 meters long and 50 meters wide. The island is part of the Banc d'Arguin National Park. During low tilde the islets form a large single island. The islet is not populated. Tidra
Tidra ( ar, تيدرة) is an offshore island long and wide. It is the largest island off the shore of Banc d' Arguin, Mauritania (also being the largest in the nation) and is home to a community of Imraguen fishing tribe. The island is part of the Banc d'Arguin National Park. Akjoujt
Akjoujt (Arabic: أكجوجت) is a small city in western Mauritania. It is the capital of Inchiri region. "Akjoujt" (ɑk'ʤuʤt) means 'wells'. The city's main industry is gold and copper mining. History Archeologists have discovered that as early as 1000 BC, copper smelting and mining was occurring in Akjoujt. According to archeologist Nicole N. Lambert, metallurgical traces and discovery sites proves relation between Mauritanian metallurgy and the introduction of Berbers into the western Sahara and the Sahel. In 1992 the city's old copper mine was repurposed into a gold mine. The company, Mines d'Or d'Akjoujt (MORAK), which was government-subsidized, was using many volatile and dangerous chemicals in the mines, and livestock and other animals in the area began to die.
