Iosefa Enari
Iosefa Enari (1954 – 22 October 2000) was a New Zealand opera singer who was born in Samoa. The Iosefa Enari Memorial Award, presented annually by Creative New Zealand, recognises Enari's pioneering contribution to Pacific Islands opera. Enari was the Artistic Director of ''Classical Polynesia'', the first New Zealand opera combining traditional Samoan words and music with classical opera. Background Enari was born in Samoa and moved to Auckland at the age of 16 with his seven brothers and sisters. Although Enari had been singing since Sunday school and in a school rock band, his career as a professional did not start until he won the Herald Aria Competition in 1987. He later performed in New Zealand opera productions alongside notable opera singers such as Dame Malvina Major. In 1993, Enari was the recipient of a New Zealand Fulbright cultural grant which allowed him to study opera in the United States. The Iosefa Enari Memorial Award is an annual award presented by Creative New Zealand at the Arts Pasifika Awards in honour of the late Samoan opera singer Iosefa Enari. The award recognises the contribution of the late Iosefa Enari to the arts and in particular his pioneering role in Pacific opera. Marvin Joey Iosefa (born June 19, 1991) is a former American football fullback. He played college football at Hawaii, and was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL) in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL draft. He was also a member of the New England Patriots. Born on American Samoa, Iosefa is a 2009 graduate of Faga'itua High School. Masada Iosefa (26 January 1988 – 25 January 2021) was a Samoan professional rugby league footballer who played as a in the 2000s and 2010s for the Penrith Panthers and Wests Tigers in the NRL. Early life Born in Motoʻotua, Apia, Samoa, Iosefa emigrated to Australia at a young age. Telupe Iosefa (born 1 November 1986, in Nukulaelae) is a Tuvaluan powerlifter. In 2015 Telupe Iosefa received the first ever gold medal won by Tuvalu at the Pacific Games in the powerlifting 120 kg male division. Career The Tuvalu Weightlifting Federation staged its first national competition on 2 July 2013 as part of the 2013 Tuvalu Games. Telupe Iosefa won the 105 kg male division. At the 2013 Commonwealth Men's Powerlifting Championships in Auckland, New Zealand, Iosefa won the silver medal in the 105 kg male division with a total of 647.5 kg. In 2014 he achieved the best performance in the squat lift with 316 kg in the 120 kg male division at the Oceania Powerlifting Federation event on 14 December 2014 at Melbourne, Australia. Fofó Iosefa Fiti Sunia (born March 13, 1937) was the first non-voting Delegate from American Samoa to the United States House of Representatives. He was born in Fagasā, Pago Pago, and attended the University of Hawaii. Sunia was the administrative officer for the Samoan affairs-liaison functions for the Governor of American Samoa, and served as a translator and interpreter and an election commissioner from 1961 to 1966. He founded the ''Samoan News'' newspaper in 1964 and became director of tourism for the Government of American Samoa in 1966, serving until 1970. Sunia was elected a territorial Senator in 1970 and was a member of the legislature until 1978. He also formerly served as president and chairman of the American Samoan Development Corporation.
