Giannis Bourousis (Greek: Γιάννης Μπουρούσης; born November 17, 1983) is a former Greek professional basketball player who last played for ASK Karditsa of the Greek A2 Basket League. He is a 7 ft 0.75 in (2.15 m) 270 lb (122 kg) tall center. A two-time All-EuroLeague First Team selection, Bourousis has been compared to FIBA Hall of Fame center Vlade Divac by San Antonio Spurs' head coach Gregg Popovich. Bourousis was on the Greece men's national basketball team that won the gold medal at EuroBasket 2005 in Serbia, and played an instrumental role as Greece won the bronze medal at EuroBasket 2009. Ioannis Filimon ( el, Ιωάννης Φιλήμων; 1798/99–1874) was a 19th-century Greek historian, militant journalist and publisher of the newspaper ''Aion'' for more than fifteen years, from 1838 up to 1854. He also participated actively in the Greek Revolution of 1821. His work entitled "Essay on the history of Filiki Eteria" was first published in 1834, a fact that makes Filimon one of the first historians of modern Greece. For the first time in 1834, Filimon, intending to write a general history of the Greek Revolution, will try to unfold the history of this secret revolutionary organization, in order to emphasize its leading role in the conception and dissemination of the idea of freedom and to restore its forgotten relationship with the Revolution of 1821. Ιoannis Apakas ( el, Ιωάννης Απακάς, mid 1500s - early 1600s), also known as Johann Apakass was a Greek painter and priest. He was active in the latter part of the 16th century to the early 17th century. He was popular artist during his time. His work resembles the Cretan School with a significant Venetian painting, Venetian influence which evolved into the Heptanese School (painting), Heptanese School. His works mostly resemble Michael Damaskinos, Georgios Klontzas and Leos Moskos. Some of his works resemble Victor (iconographer), Victor of Crete, Elias Moskos. Ioannis Demestichas ( el, Ιωάννης Δεμέστιχας, 1882–1960) was a Hellenic Navy officer. He is best known for his participation in the Macedonian Struggle under the ''nom de guerre'' of Kapetan Nikiforos (Καπετάν Νικηφόρος). He held various senior commands in the Greek Navy, including thrice as Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, and also served briefly in cabinet positions. Ioannis Frangoudis ( el, Ιωάννης Φραγκούδης; 1863 – 19 October 1916) was a Greek soldier, athlete and Hellenic Army officer who reached the rank of Colonel. He also competed in the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens as a shooter. Frangoudis is the only Greek athlete who has won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal in a single Olympic. Biography Frangoudis hailed from Limassol, Cyprus, which was under British control at the time, but was born in Zakynthos, where his father worked as a consul. He graduated from the Hellenic Military Academy in 1885, and worked his way up the ranks of the Greek army, being a captain at the time of the 1896 Olympics. After the Greco-Turkish war of 1897, he had become a colonel, and a friend of King George I of Greece. Ioannis Alevras ( el, Ιωάννης Αλευράς; 1912 – 6 April 1995), sometimes spelled Yannis Alevras, was a Greece, Greek Panhellenic Socialist Movement politician and Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, who served as acting President of Greece in March 1985. Syndicalist Before becoming a politician, Alevras was employed at the Bank of Greece. Ioannis Doukas
Ioannis Doukas or Dukas ( el, Ιωάννης Δούκας, 1841–1916) was a Greek painter and one of the main representatives in 19th century portrait painting in Greece. Life Doukas was born in 1841, in Gjirokastër (then Ottoman Empire, modern Albania). He started his studies in art at the School of Fine Arts of Athens, Greece, in 1859. He continued his studies outside Greece: initially in the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1865-1868), being a student of the German painter Karl von Piloty. He then moved to Paris and became student of Jean-Léon Gérôme. Doukas worked as painter in a number of western European cities: Paris, Marseille and Vienna, where he became distinguished in the painting of portraits. At 1879 he returned to Greece, while continued to be focused in portrait painting. Doukas attended several artist's exhibitions in Greece and abroad, such as the Paris Salon.
