Invercargill ILT Velodrome
The SIT Zero Fees Velodrome is an indoor velodrome at Invercargill in the South Island of New Zealand. The $11 million velodrome is an indoor complex next to Stadium Southland, built on the western side of the stadium proper. (The other New Zealand indoor velodrome is the Avantidrome, at Cambridge, in the North Island of the country). The facility was also the home for the Southern Steel netball side and Southland Sharks basketball team from 2011 to 2013, after the collapse of Stadium Southland in September 2010 during a snow storm. Invercargill ( , mi, Waihōpai is the southernmost and westernmost city in New Zealand, and one of the southernmost cities in the world. It is the commercial centre of the Southland region. Cycling Southland is a cycling club based at the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome in Invercargill, New Zealand. It manages all Southland road and track cycling activities at Club and Centre level along with responsibility for delivering events like the SBS Bank Tour of Southland and major national and international track cycling events including Oceania and New Zealand Elite and Age Group Track Cycling Championships. Southern Steel
Southern Steel are a New Zealand netball team based in Invercargill. Between 2008 and 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship. Since 2017 they have represented Netball South in the ANZ Premiership. Netball South is the governing body that represents Southland and Otago. In 2017 they won their first premiership when they were the inaugural ANZ Premiership winners. In 2018 they won their second premiership when they retained the title. In 2017 Steel were the inaugural winners of the Netball New Zealand Super Club tournament. Southland Sharks
The Southland Sharks are a New Zealand basketball team based in Invercargill. The Sharks compete in the National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home games at Stadium Southland. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the SBS Bank Southland Sharks. Team history The Southland Sharks brand dates back to the 1990s when the Smokefree Southland Sharks competed in the Conference Basketball League (CBL) and won championships in 1995 and 1998. Stadium Southland
ILT Stadium Southland in Invercargill, New Zealand is a multi-purpose venue, capable of conducting a wide range of events from large scale concerts to sporting events and exhibitions. Incorporating the SIT Zero Fees Velodrome, the stadium complex has hosted a range of national and international events – sporting, recreational, cultural, arts, corporate and even equestrian. The original stadium was completed in May 2000 but in September 2010, a heavy snowfall caused the main stadium roof to collapse, causing substantial structural damage to the complex.
