''Interstate 8'' is the second EP by alternative rock band Modest Mouse, released on Up Records in 1996. It contains the band's original demo, ''Live in Sunburst Montana'', which was recorded in Isaac Brock's garage in Issaquah, Washington. "Interstate 8," "Broke," "All Night Diner," and "Sleepwalking" were later included on the ''Building Nothing Out of Something'' rarities compilation released in 2000. The studio recordings of "Tundra/Desert", "Novocain Stain", and "Beach Side Property" are available on the band's debut album ''This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About''. Rarity Heavily sought-after by collectors, this album was reissued on Isaac Brock's Glacial Pace record label in early 2015 on both CD and vinyl. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Modest Mouse
Modest Mouse is an American rock band formed in 1992 in Issaquah, Washington, and currently based in Portland, Oregon. The founding members are lead singer/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green, and bassist Eric Judy. Strongly influenced by Pavement, Pixies, XTC, and Talking Heads, they rehearsed, rearranged, and recorded demos for almost two years before finally signing with small-town indie label K Records and releasing numerous singles. Since their 1996 debut album, ''This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About'', the band's lineup has mostly centered on Brock and Green, undergoing multiple changes. Jeremiah Green
Jeremiah Martin Green (March 4, 1977December 31, 2022) was an American musician best known as a founding member and drummer of the indie rock band Modest Mouse from 1993 to March 2003, and again from May 2004 until his death in December 2022. Early life Jeremiah Martin Green was born on March 4, 1977, in Oahu, Hawaii, while his father was stationed there in the Army. He grew up in Moxee, Washington, a few miles outside of Yakima. His family moved to the Seattle area in 1989. He had an older brother named Adam. His father was an alcoholic who was abusive to Green; he later apologized and reconciled with his son. Eric Scott Judy is an American musician best known as the original bass guitarist, co-founder, and occasional backing vocalist of the indie rock band Modest Mouse. ''Building Nothing Out of Something'' is a compilation album released in January 2000 by American indie rock band Modest Mouse, comprising non-album tracks from various points in the band's career. Most of the tracks are A- and B-sides from 7" singles, but it also includes three tracks from the ''Interstate 8'' EP, and "Baby Blue Sedan" from the vinyl version of ''The Lonesome Crowded West''. Issaquah ( ) is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 40,051 at the 2020 census. Located in a valley and bisected by Interstate 90, the city is bordered by the Sammamish Plateau to the north and the "Issaquah Alps" to the south. Isaac Kristofer Brock (born July 9, 1975) is an American musician who is the lead singer, songwriter, guitarist and banjoist for the indie rock band Modest Mouse, as well as his side project band, Ugly Casanova. As a songwriter, he is noted for his wordplay and frequent use of metaphors, philosophical lyrics, themes of authentic rural lifestyles, and phrases and sayings commonly used in the early to mid-20th century and in blue collar environments. Early life Brock was born in Helena, Montana. During his childhood, he lived with his mother and sister in Montana and Oregon in hippie communes and churches before moving to Issaquah, Washington when he was 11 years old. Sunburst, Montana
Sunburst is a town in Toole County, Montana, United States. The population was 333 in the 2020 census. It is roughly 30 miles north of Shelby and is near the Canada–US border. History Sunburst has its origins as a farming community and later saw significant population growth after oil development occurred in the 1920s. A refinery was built in 1922 with the discovery of oil in the Kevin Sunburst Oil Field. Since oil development in the area ceased in the 1970s, Sunburst has once again become a primarily agricultural town.
