Intersex Asia
Intersex Asia is a pan-Asian intersex human rights organization, established in 2018 and registered in Taiwan. History Intersex Asia was established at the First Asian Intersex Forum on February 10, 2018, in Bangkok, Thailand. The forum brought together 14 people from Hong Kong (China), India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Notable representatives and spokespeople include Jeff Cagandahan, Hiker Chiu, Esan Regmi, Small Luk and Gopi Shankar Madurai. Indian human rights lawyer Prashant Singh has been appointed as coordinator. Activities Intersex Asia aims to promote and protect the human rights of intersex people in Asia, including rights to bodily integrity, physical autonomy and self determination, and it also aims to provide a representative voice. Esan Regmi
Esan Regmi (born 1988) is a prominent Nepali intersex man and intersex human rights activist. He has founded the Nepali organization Campaign for Change, and he is one of the co founders of International NGO Intersex Asia. Early life Regmi was born in Bajura, Nepal, in 1988. He describes the region around Bajura as remote, mountainous, and conservative. Regmi was raised female but developed male characteristics during puberty, resulting in stigma, discrimination and claims of 'fake' identity in education and employment. He describes travelling to India for medical treatment, and discussion about being sent to be part of a kinnar or hijra community. Regmi was loved by his family, and studied at home, but his mental health suffered. Intersex people are individuals born with any of several sex characteristics including chromosome patterns, gonads, or genitals that, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, "do not fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies". Sex assignment at birth usually aligns with a child's anatomical sex and phenotype. The number of births with ambiguous genitals is in the range of 1:2000–1:4500 (0.022%–0.05%). Other conditions involve atypical chromosomes, gonads, or hormones. RFSL
The Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Rights ( sv, Riksförbundet för homosexuellas, bisexuellas, transpersoners och queeras rättigheter, RFSL, formerly ) is a Swedish organization working for LGBT rights. Lawyer and social worker Trifa Shakely was elected as the new president in 2021. It was founded in 1950, which makes it one of the oldest LGBT rights organizations in the world. As of 2018, it had about 7,000 members and has 36 regional offices spread over the country. RFSL was a major lobbyist for gender-neutral marriage, a goal that was reached in April 2009 after 50 years of working with that specific issue. In 2013, Mama Cash supported 118 women's, girls and trans rights organisations with 4.3 million euros. History Mama Cash was founded in the Netherlands in 1983 by five feminists: Marjan Sax, Dorelies Kraakman, Patti Slegers, Tania Leon and Lida van den Broek. Marjan Sax provided the initial capital of $1,250,000, lending it to Mama Cash for an initial ten years, later extended by another five years.
