International Socialist League (UK)
The International Socialist League is a small Trotskyist organisation in the UK. The group's origins lie in the disintegration of the Workers' Revolutionary Party (WRP) in the 1980s. It was founded as the Bolshevik Faction of Cliff Slaughter's WRP in August 1987 and from the start was sympathetic to the Latin American-based Trotskyist leader Nahuel Moreno. In February 1988 the future ISL split from the WRP and under the leadership of the veteran Bill Hunter and Martin Ralph founded their organisation, which affiliated to Moreno's International Workers League (LIT). The ISL remains active in the North West of England, London, South Wales and the East of England and was active in the Socialist Alliance. It was supportive of the Socialist Alliance Democracy Platform, the Merseyside-based United Socialist Party, and the TUSC. The Movement for Socialism is an occasional grouping of socialists in the United Kingdom. It originated as one half of the major split in the Workers Revolutionary Party of 1985. Trotskyism is the political ideology and branch of Marxism developed by Ukrainian-Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky and some other members of the Left Opposition and Fourth International. The International Workers League (Fourth International), also known as IWLfi ( es, Liga Internacional de los Trabajadores (Cuarta Internacional) and LITci; pt, Liga Internacional dos Trabalhadores - Quarta Internacional or LIT-QI) is a Morenist Trotskyist international organisation. Overview The group's origins lie in the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI). Moreno's supporters followed the American Socialist Workers Party in leaving the ICFI in 1963 to form the reunified Fourth International (USFI). In 1969, the USFI voted to support guerrilla war in Latin America. Moreno's group opposed this. It was reduced to sympathiser status. Left Unity is a left-wing political party in the United Kingdom founded in 2013 when film director and social campaigner Ken Loach appealed for a new party to replace the Labour Party (which according to him failed to oppose the United Kingdom government austerity programme and had shifted towards neoliberalism). More than 10,000 people supported Loach's appeal. In 2014, the party had 2,000 members and 70 branches across Britain. The organisation is affiliated at the European Union level with the Party of the European Left. TUSC
Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) is a socialist electoral alliance launched in Britain for the 2010 general election. TUSC's co-founder was the RMT union general secretary Bob Crow. Members of the PCS, NUT, FBU and POA unions are on the steering committee. The biggest component section of TUSC was the RMT until they disaffiliated at the 2022 RMT AGM. The most prominent participating political groups are the Socialist Party and the Resistance Movement. TUSC stood 135 (parliamentary) candidates across England, Wales and Scotland at the 2015 general election and 619 the same day in local government elections. Socialist Alliance (England)
The Socialist Alliance was a left-wing electoral alliance in England between 1999 and 2005. Origins The Socialist Alliance grew out of local alliances formed by the Socialist Party, Independent Labour Network and independent socialists from 1992 onward. They gradually coalesced into a national Network of Socialist Alliances. The Welsh Socialist Alliance was closely allied, but had separate origins. The Socialist Alliance was named and expanded in 1999 when other Trotskyist groups including the Alliance for Workers' Liberty, Socialist Workers Party, International Socialist Group and Workers Power joined, as did the formerly separate London Socialist Alliance.
