International Shoe Company Building (St. Clair, Missouri)
The International Shoe Company Building is a historic shoe factory building located at 160 N. Main St. in St. Clair, Franklin County, Missouri. The building was erected in 1922 as a factory for the International Shoe Company. It is a three-story, irregular-shaped building with a flat asphalt roof. It has a four-story elevator tower. The factory closed in 1982. Franklin County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. At the 2020 census, the population was 104,682. Its county seat is Union. Furniture Brands International, Inc., was a Clayton, Missouri-based home furnishings company. Some of the brands it owned in the furniture industry included Broyhill, Lane, Thomasville, Drexel Heritage, Henredon, Hickory Chair, Pearson, Laneventure, and Maitland-Smith. The company began in 1911 as International Shoe Company with the merger of Roberts, Johnson & Rand Shoe Company and Peters Shoe Company. In 1966 the company changed its name to Interco as the result of diversification, and once the company exited the shoe business, adopted the name Furniture Brands International. Some of the brands it owned in the furniture industry included Broyhill, Thomasville, Drexel Heritage, Henredon, Hickory Chair, Pearson, Laneventure, and Maitland-Smith.
