International Motor Contest Association
The International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) was organized in 1915 by J. Alex Sloan, and is currently the oldest active auto racing sanctioning body in the United States. IMCA is currently headquartered in Vinton, Iowa, and features several classes and divisions of weekly racing in six geographical regions of the United States. The NASCAR Rookie of the Year Award is presented to the first-year driver that has the best season in a NASCAR season. Each of NASCAR's national and regional touring series selects a RotY winner each year. History of the Award The Rookie of the Year award for NASCAR's premier series was first presented to a driver named Blackie Pitt by Houston Lawing, NASCAR's Public Relations director, in 1954. While it wasn't an official award, it would help set the standard for the top rookie prize. An official award started with the 1958 season. From the 1958 through the 1973 seasons, NASCAR did not have an official points system to determine the Rookie of the Year, so NASCAR's officials merely gathered together to select a winner. Dick Hutcherson
Richard "Dick" Hutcherson (November 30, 1931 – November 6, 2005) was an American businessman and a former stock car racer. A native of Keokuk, Iowa, Hutcherson drove in NASCAR competition from 1964 to 1967. He won 14 races, finishing runner-up in his first full season in 1965 and third in 1967, but after four years of top-level racing he retired at the season's end to devote his energies to ''Hutcherson-Pagan Enterprises'', a chassis-building business in Charlotte, North Carolina. His younger brother Ron also became a stock car racer. IMCA Dick hailed from Keokuk, Iowa, which has long been called the ''"Home of Champions"'' and the ''"Racing Capital of the World"''. {{short description, Annual racing event The Harris Clash is an annual racing event held in early August. The event is sanctioned by IMCA and promoted by Bob Harris Enterprises. It is widely regarded as being one of the best IMCA modified races in the country, drawing hundreds of cars and thousands of fans every year. The Harris Clash was started in 1992 by Bob Harris of thHarris Auto Racing Company (current owner of Bob Harris Enterprises) as a challenge to other racing chassis manufacturers. Not only is the winning driver of the race given national recognition, but unlike other major events, the car manufacturer is also given major exposure. IMCA Sport Compact is IMCA's entry level class of racecars. They are found at IMCA tracks around the United States. History The series was formed in 2006, when six tracks ran the class. A seventh track was added in 2007. Cars IMCA Sport Compacts are three or four cylinder front-wheel drive compact cars. The car's interior is gutted for safety and weight reduction.
