International Bosphorus Cup
The International Bosphorus Cup is a Group 2 flat horse race in Turkey open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at Veliefendi Race Course over a distance of 2,400 metres (about 1½ mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early September. It is part of Istanbul's International Racing Festival. History The Bosphorus Cup was elevated to international Group 2 level in 2009, though in 2018 it lost that status becoming Local Group 2 and substantially reducing its prizemoney. Veliefendi Race Course
Veliefendi Race Course ( tr, Veliefendi Hipodromu) is a horse racing race track, track located at Veliefendi neighborhood in Bakırköy district of Istanbul, Turkey. It is the country's oldest and biggest race course founded on a former grassland that was historically a farm belonging to Shaykh al-Islām, Şeyhülislam Veliyüddin Efendi, an 18th-century superior authority of Islam in the Ottoman Empire. The race course was constructed in the years 1912/13 by German specialists upon the initiative of Enver Pasha. The race course hosts also music events. In 2006, Turkish pop singer Nezihe Kalkan, Nez held a concert. Physical attributes The race course covers an area of consisting of facilities for racing, training and barns. Luca M. Cumani (born 7 April 1949, in Milan, Italy) is an Italian thoroughbred horse trainer and breeder. He trained at Bedford House Stables in Newmarket from 1976 to 2019. Adam Kirby
Adam Kirby (born August 1988) is a Group 1-winning British jockey. He was brought up in Kirtling near Newmarket, on the Cambridgeshire/Suffolk border, where he still lives, and started riding out for James Fanshawe aged 12. He served his apprenticeship with Michael Wigham in Newmarket and won with his first professional ride on Broughton Knows at Lingfield on 1 October 2004. Richard Hughes (born 11 January 1973) is a retired Irish jockey and current racehorse trainer who is based at Lambourn in Berkshire, England. Born in Dublin, he is the son of successful National Hunt trainer, Dessie Hughes. Hughes became British flat racing Champion Jockey in 2012 and retained that title in 2013, when he rode more than 200 winners in the season, and again in 2014. Riding career Hughes started pony racing aged seven, having his first win aboard Chestnut Lady in a six furlong race at Wexford. Pether's Moon (foaled 15 April 2010) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire (horse), sire best known for his win in the 2015 Coronation Cup. After showing some promise as a juvenile in 2012 he became a successful Handicap (horse racing), handicapper in the following year and ended his season with a win in the Listed Floodlit Stakes. As a four-year-old in 2014 he became a Group race performer, winning the Glorious Stakes and the Cumberland Lodge Stakes in England and the International Bosphorus Cup, Bosphorus Cup in Turkey. Mickaël Barzalona (born 3 August 1991 in Avignon, France) is a French-born Thoroughbred horse racing jockey, who is the retained jockey in France for Godolphin. Career Barzalona was born into a racing family, his grandfather is Christian Barzalona a trainer based in Corsica and his uncle Armand Barzalona a former flat and jumps jockey. Barzalona began his career with André Fabre as an apprentice in 2009 and rode out his claim within the year with 72 wins. His first victory for the Godolphin team came at the Dubai Gold Cup in Meydan, before winning his first Group 1 with Wavering in the Prix Saint-Alary at ParisLongchamp. Mick Channon
Michael Roger Channon (born 28 November 1948) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward, most notably for Southampton, and went on to represent the England national team in the 1970s. Scoring over 250 goals in his career, he also became known for his trademark windmill goal celebration. Channon later became a successful racehorse trainer.
