International Ball Game Confederation
The International Ball game Confederation (also known as CIJB, in French ''Confederation Internationale du Jeu de Balle''), founded on May 13, 1928, is the organization that manages the common activities of the many ball games deriving from Jeu de paume. Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, England, and Uruguay all have local federations that take part in the CIJB. Since every country has developed minor changes, the CIJB created a variety called International game that shares all the common traits of the ''direct style'' (face to face) and another variety for the ''indirect style,'' International fronton. International Fronton
One-wall handball, also known as 1-wall, wallball or international fronton is an indirect style of a ball game where the player hits a small rubber ball with their hand against a wall. The goal of the game is to score more points than the opponent. The player then hits the ball, and the ball bounces off the wall and the floor within court lines, if the opponent fails to return the ball, the player scores a point. The sport was created to bring varieties, such as American handball, Basque pelota, Patball, Gaelic handball, Pêl-Law (Welsh handball) and Valencian frontó. Courtfield International fronton uses the most basic courtfield layout of the indirect style: one wall where the ball must bounce. This only wall, the fronton, is wide and high. Llargues
Llargues (, "long ones") is the oldest Valencian pilota modality. It is played on the streets, where two teams formed by 3, 4 or 5 players throw each other the ball with the hand try to surpass an imaginary line which changes every game. There are no professional players, but it is very common in the towns and villages of some regions of the Valencian Community, such as the Marina Alta and Baixa, l'Alacantí, l'Alcoià and the Comtat . Playing area The chosen place must be a plain, straight, wide and long street, measuring 70 m at most. If one of the sides is upset the downside will be assigned to the "rest", the same if one of the sides is wider. Street is limited by two lines: the ''banca'' line and the rest line which mark the end of both sides. There is also another line, the fault line which signals the point the ball must surpass when serving, at 40 m from the ''rest''. Valencian Pilota
Valencian pilota ( ca-valencia, pilota valenciana "Valencian ball") is a traditional handball sport played in the Valencian Community. Its origins are not known. Rules variations within the generic ''Pilota Valenciana'' category are frequent from area to area but the common trait is that the ball is struck with a bare, or almost bare, hand (only minimal protection is applied in some versions of the sport). The general rule involves two teams made from two up to five players each (the numbers depend on the particular version played). Exceptionally, individual matches are also played (mostly in Escala i corda and Raspall) between the most renowned players. The second characteristic is that it is not played against a wall. Longue Paume
Longue paume, or ''jeu de longue paume'', is an outdoor version of jeu de paume, an ancestor of modern lawn tennis. Hundreds of years ago it was quite popular, particularly in France. It is a game of gain-ground as Balle à la main. It was part of the Paris 1900 Summer Olympics, but its medal status is disputed. Today, the sport is most played in the region of Picardy. Frisian Handball
Frisian handball ( fry, keatsen; nl, kaatsen) is a traditional Frisian sport, related to American handball and fives, that is most commonly practiced by people from the northern Dutch province of Friesland (''Fryslân''). It is believed to be one of the oldest ballgames and was an unofficial demonstration sport at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The scoring is similar to tennis. Chazas
The Chaza, or pelota nacional (national ball), is a South American racquet sport, (like tennis), which is practiced on a rectangular area bounded by lines. This area is divided by a line drawn on the floor that divides the playing field. It is played between two teams, each with 4 players. The object of the game is to launch a ball (called "bombo") by hand or racquet so that it bounces into the opponent's field without being returned. The sport is widely practiced in Nariño, Colombia, and it's the national sport of Ecuador. History Chaza was created in the 14th century by indigenous communities who inhabited the area that is currently on the border of Colombia and Ecuador. In the beginning it was played with a heavy leather ball, which was thrown by hand. Valencian Pilota Federation
The Valencian Pilota Federation (in Catalan: ''Federació de Pilota Valenciana'') is the Valencian public organization that promotes and manages the many varieties and competitions of the Valencian pilota sport. Its current president is Ramón Sedeño Clemente. There are 2,003 licensed players and 28 teachers for the 756 students at the ''pilota'' colleges. There are 77 professional players (''pilotaris'') and 15 '' marxadors'' at the trinquets. The "''Federació de Pilota Valenciana''" was founded on 1984, until then it was part of the "''Confederación Española de Pelota''", which was devoted to Basque pelota, a different handball.
