Interim (album)
''Interim'' is an album by English post-punk band The Fall, compiled from live and studio material and released in 2004 by record label Hip Priest. Content ''Interim'' features the first officially released versions of "Clasp Hands", "Blindness" and "What About Us?" – all of which were later included on the band's next studio album '' Fall Heads Roll'' (2005) – as well as the instrumental "I'm Ronnie the Oney". The remaining tracks are all new versions of previously released songs, mostly from studio rehearsal recordings. ''Interim'' was originally to be titled ''Cocked'' - the alternate title was given on a promotional CD for "Blindness", which also gave the track's title as "Blind Man". The Fall (band)
The Fall were an English post-punk group, formed in 1976 in Prestwich, Greater Manchester. They underwent many line-up changes, with vocalist and founder Mark E. Smith as the only constant member. The Fall's long-term musicians included drummers Paul Hanley, Simon Wolstencroft and Karl Burns; guitarists Marc Riley, Craig Scanlon and Brix Smith; and bassist Steve Hanley, whose melodic, circular bass lines are widely credited with shaping the band's sound from early 1980s albums such as ''Hex Enduction Hour'' to the late 1990s. First associated with the late 1970s punk movement, the Fall's music underwent numerous stylistic changes, often concurrently with changes in the group's lineup. Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and DIY ethic but determined to break from rock cliches, artists experimented with styles like funk, electronic music, jazz, and dance music; the production techniques of dub and disco; and ideas from art and politics, including critical theory, modernist art, cinema and literature. These communities produced independent record labels, visual art, multimedia performances and fanzines. Voiceprint Records
Voiceprint Records was a British independent record label based in England, founded in November 1990 by Rob Ayling. They specialised in re-releasing old material, especially progressive rock, but also had new releases, under the Resurgence and Blueprint labels. The holding company, Zeit Distribution Ltd., went into insolvency in 2010. It was replaced by the phoenix company, Gonzo Multimedia in 2010. The new company has a broader remit, and releases a much wider range of music. Labels Voiceprint operated a number of record labels, including some for a single band or set of related artists. ''50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong'' (subtitled ''39 Golden Greats'') is a greatest hits album by English post-punk band the Fall, released in 2004 by record label Sanctuary. Content ''50,000'' is the group's first career-spanning compilation album, with a selection of songs from the 1978 EP ''Bingo-Master's Break-Out!'' up to the 2003 album '' The Real New Fall LP (Formerly Country on the Click)''. The selection of songs includes both singles and album highlights. Journalist and author, Daryl Easlea compiled the album and wrote the sleevenotes. The cover and title of the album is a parody of Elvis Presley's ''50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong'' (1959). In November 2018, the album was repackaged and expanded as ''58 Golden Greats'' on Cherry Red Records. The new cover also referenced an Elvis Presley album, this time the UK edition of '' Elvis' 40 Greatest''. ''The Complete Peel Sessions 1978–2004'' is a compilation box set by English post-punk band the Fall. It was released in 2005 by record label Castle Music. Content ''The Complete Peel Sessions'' comprises each of the twenty-four sessions the group recorded for John Peel's radio show. Peel was an avid supporter of the group from early in their career, and the Fall recorded more sessions for Peel's programmes than any other artist. The set was in the process of being compiled when Peel died in October 2004. The set charts almost all of the group's musical phases up until 2004. Release The box set's release was conceived by Sanctuary Records as part of a comprehensive reissue campaign to capitalise upon the recent success of '' The Real New Fall LP (Formerly Country on the Click)'', which had been roundly praised as a "return to form" for the band. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. Fall Heads Roll
''Fall Heads Roll'' is the 24th studio album by English post-punk group the Fall, released in 2005. Although well-received by critics, it didn't reach the top 100 of the UK Albums Chart, and was the last album released by the band prior to major personnel changes. Background, recording, and release The album was recorded at Lisa Stansfield's Gracieland Studios in Rochdale, UK and at Gigantic Studios in New York City. In a March 2005 interview with ''Kitchen Sink'' magazine prior to the album's release, singer Mark E. Smith mentioned ''Heads Are Rolling'' and ''If You Assume'' as two possible titles. The album includes a cover version of the Move's "I Can Hear the Grass Grow", and "What About Us?", a song written from the point of view of an East German immigrant who berates Harold Shipman for giving morphine to old ladies instead of him.
