Intercollegiate Hockey League
The Intercollegiate Hockey League began as an agreement between Harvard, Princeton and Yale to play one another in best-of-three series. History As the Intercollegiate Hockey Association was collapsing, the three top college teams wanted to continue playing games against one another. After Harvard left the IHA in 1911 they scheduled both Princeton and Yale multiple times the following season. After Yale left the next year all three teams agreed to play two games against one another with a third used in case of a tie. After the collapse of the IHA and the suspension of Columbia's ice hockey in 1915, both Cornell and Dartmouth made overtures to join the league but after Cornell was forced to cancel any such plans due to financial constraints, nothing came to fruition for either program. Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a " puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. Pentagonal League
The Pentagonal League is a defunct NCAA Division I ice hockey-only conference. The league was formed by Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton and Yale as a way of determining which team, among the oldest ice hockey programs, was the best. The league is a precursor to the Ivy League. History The four schools involved can trace the beginning of their ice hockey teams to at least 1905 with Yale's inaugural season in 1895–96 serving as the unofficial dawn of college ice hockey. The Triangular Hockey League began as an agreement between Harvard, Princeton and Yale to play one another in best-of-three series during the season. History The Triangular League followed a similar pattern to the Intercollegiate Hockey League, which had existed before World War I but rather than expand to include other teams as they had previously, the Trianular league remained a 3-team conference. The future Ivy League squads were typically considered the cream of college ice hockey during the 1920s and, as a result, the League champion would often claim to be the Eastern hockey champion. ECAC Hockey is one of the six conferences that compete in NCAA Division I ice hockey. The conference used to be affiliated with the Eastern College Athletic Conference, a consortium of over 300 colleges in the eastern United States. The Princeton Tigers are the athletic teams of Princeton University. The school sponsors 35 varsity teams in 20 sports.
