Root Of A Function
In mathematics, a zero (also sometimes called a root) of a real-, complex-, or generally vector-valued function f, is a member x of the domain of f such that f(x) ''vanishes'' at x; that is, the function f attains the value of 0 at x, or equivalently, x is the solution to the equation f(x) = 0. A "zero" of a function is thus an input value that produces an output of 0. A root of a polynomial is a zero of the corresponding polynomial function. The fundamental theorem of algebra shows that any non-zero polynomial has a number of roots at most equal to its degree, and that the number of roots and the degree are equal when one considers the complex roots (or more generally, the roots in an algebraically closed extension) counted with their multiplicities. For example, the polynomial f of degree two, defined by f(x)=x^2-5x+6 has the two roots (or zeros) that are 2 and 3. f(2)=2^2-5\times 2+6= 0\textf(3)=3^2-5\times 3+6=0. If the function maps real numbers to real numbers, then it ...

Y-intercept
In analytic geometry, using the common convention that the horizontal axis represents a variable ''x'' and the vertical axis represents a variable ''y'', a ''y''-intercept or vertical intercept is a point where the graph of a function or relation intersects the ''y''-axis of the coordinate system. As such, these points satisfy ''x'' = 0. Using equations If the curve in question is given as y= f(x), the ''y''-coordinate of the ''y''-intercept is found by calculating f(0). Functions which are undefined at ''x'' = 0 have no ''y''-intercept. If the function is linear and is expressed in slope-intercept form as f(x)=a+bx, the constant term a is the ''y''-coordinate of the ''y''-intercept. Multiple y-intercepts Some 2-dimensional mathematical relationships such as circles, ellipses, and hyperbolas can have more than one ''y''-intercept. Because functions associate ''x'' values to no more than one ''y'' value as part of their definition, they can have at most one ''y''-intercept. x ...

Interception
In ball-playing competitive team sports, an interception or pick is a move by a player involving a pass of the ball—whether by foot or hand, depending on the rules of the sport—in which the ball is intended for a player of the same team but caught by a player of the team on defense, who thereby usually gains possession of the ball for their team. It is commonly seen in football, including American and Canadian football, as well as association football, rugby league, rugby union, Australian rules football and Gaelic football, as well as any sport by which a loose object is passed between players toward a goal. In basketball, a pick is called a steal. American/Canadian football In American football and Canadian football, an interception occurs when a forward pass that has not yet touched the ground is caught by a player of the opposing defensive team. This leads to an immediate change of possession during the play, and the defender who caught the ball can immediately attem ...

Operation Intercept
Operation Intercept was an anti-drug measure engaged by President Richard Nixon from 21 September to 11 October 1969 that resulted in a near shutdown of border crossings between Mexico and the United States. The initiative was intended to reduce the importation of Mexican marijuana to the United States during what was considered to be the prime harvest season. It was implemented by Myles Ambrose, who served as the Commissioner of Customs in the Nixon administration. Description Freshly elected as US President, Richard Nixon launched an anti-drug war by following his Anaheim campaign pledge of September 1968. He targeted the cannabis coming from Mexico and the heroin coming from Turkey through the French Connection.Kate DoyleOperation Intercept: The Perils of Unilateralism National Security Archive at George Washington University, with copies of 18 previously classified documents. Telephone Tapping
Telephone tapping (also wire tapping or wiretapping in American English) is the monitoring of telephone and Internet-based conversations by a third party, often by covert means. The wire tap received its name because, historically, the monitoring connection was an actual electrical tap on the telephone line. Legal wiretapping by a government agency is also called lawful interception. Passive wiretapping monitors or records the traffic, while active wiretapping alters or otherwise affects it. Legal status Lawful interception is officially strictly controlled in many countries to safeguard privacy; this is the case in all liberal democracies. In theory, telephone tapping often needs to be authorized by a court, and is again in theory, normally only approved when evidence shows it is not possible to detect criminal or subversive activity in less intrusive ways. Oftentimes, the law and regulations require that the crime investigated must be at least of a certain severity. Illegal ...

Tax Refund Intercept
A tax refund interception, also referred to as a tax refund offset, is the act of an agency responsible for sending tax refunds using all or part of a refund to fulfill an obligation of the taxpayer rather than sending the money to the taxpayer him/herself. Some common obligations for which tax refunds are intercepted include student loans, child support, fines, restitution, and wage garnishments; however this is usually done if said debts are in considerable arrears. Debtors who have been making agreed payments on the dot are usually not subject to this as creditors often feel interception unnecessary. It can take years for an agency to initiate Tax intercept. While taxes are sometimes intercepted to pay off the balance to a government-operated collection agency, few jurisdictions allow refunds to be intercepted to pay a private collection agency. In the United States, the Internal Revenue Code allows the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to divert overpayments of taxes to satisfy ...

Samsung Intercept
The Samsung SPH-M910 (marketed as the Samsung Intercept) is a discontinued Android smartphone manufactured by Samsung. It was released on July 11, 2010, for Sprint in the United States, and was also released on Sprint Nextel-owned prepaid cell phone company Virgin Mobile on October 4, 2010. It was marketed as an updated version of the very similar Samsung Moment, though in several respects its features are inferior: its screen resolution of 240×400 is less than the 320×480 resolution of the Moment, it does not have a camera flash, and the Sprint version (but not the Virgin Mobile version) of the Intercept supports only EVDO Rev. 0Samsung Intercept specs

Intercept Message
An intercept message is a telephone recording informing the caller that the call cannot be completed, for any of a number of reasons ranging from local congestion, to disconnection of the destination phone, number dial errors or network trouble along the route. Background Before automation, calls to a disconnected or non-working number would be diverted to an intercept operator. The operator would ask what number the subscriber was attempting to call, determine the reason for the intercept and relay the information to the calling party. The first automatic intercept systems used rotating magnetic drums containing multiple recorded phrases, with a computer or mechanical control system playing phrases in the proper sequence. Initially, the caller was given the option to remain on the line for a live operator after the announcement was completed; this has since been removed. These messages are generally performed by female voices, although male voices are used as well. Jane Barbe, ...

The Intercept
''The Intercept'' is an American left-wing news website founded by Glenn Greenwald, Jeremy Scahill, Laura Poitras and funded by billionaire eBay co-founder Pierre Omidyar. Its current editor is Betsy Reed. The publication initially reported on documents released by Edward Snowden and was considered to be "activist voice for privacy and civil liberties". Co-founders Greenwald and Poitras subsequently left amid public disagreements about the leadership and direction of the organization. In recent years, the website's editorial stance has become more closely aligned with the hard-left of the Democratic Party. It was among the first to report on the campaign of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and often criticizes moderate democrats from a left-wing perspective. Its editorial policy explicitly rejects "mandating balance" when covering stories. ''The Intercept'' has published in English since its founding, and in Portuguese since the 2016 launch of the Brazilian edition staffed by a ...
