''Interatherium'' is an extinct genus of interatheriid mammal from the Early to Middle Miocene (Colhuehuapian- Mayoan). ''Protypotherium'' is an extinct genus of notoungulate mammals native to South America during the Oligocene and Miocene epochs. A number of closely related animals date back further, to the Eocene. ''Cochilius'' is an extinct genus of interatheriid notoungulate that lived between the Late Oligocene and the lower Miocene in what is now Argentina. Description The skull and skeleton show features also found in other similar contemporary or slightly later animals, such as ''Interatherium'' and ''Protypotherium''. In the general proportions of the skull ''Cochilius'' was similar to ''Interatherium'', but in some features it was closer to ''Protypotherium'', for example, in the large development of the snout and the median position of the orbits. The epitympanic ''sinus'' was slightly spongy. The forelimbs resembled those of ''Interatherium,'' and were more puny than those of ''Protypotherium.'' Santa Cruz Formation, Argentina
The Santa Cruz Formation is a geological formation in the Magallanes/Austral Basin in southern Patagonia in Argentina and in adjacent areas of Chile. It dates to the late Early Miocene epoch, and is contemporaneous with eponymous Santacrucian SALMA. The formation extends from the Andes to the Atlantic coast. In its coastal section it is divided into two members, the lower, fossil rich Estancia La Costa Member, which has a lithology predominantly consisting of tuffaceous deposits and fine grained sedimentary claystone and mudstone, and the upper fossil-poor Estancia La Angelina Member, which consists of sedimentary rock, primarily claystone, mudstone, and sandstone. The Collón Curá Formation ( es, Formación Collón Curá) is a Middle Miocene fossiliferous geological formation of the southern Neuquén Basin in northwestern Patagonia and the western Cañadón Asfalto Basin of central Patagonia, Argentina. The formation crops out from the southern Neuquén Province, the western Río Negro Province to the northern Chubut Province.
