Intelsat 907
Intelsat 907 (or IS-907) was a communications satellite operated by Intelsat. Launch Intelsat 907 was launched by an Ariane 4 rocket from Guiana Space Centre, French Guiana, at 06:44 UTC on February 15, 2003. Capacity and coverage The 4.7 tonne spacecraft provided data-relay among installations in North America, South America, Western Europe and Africa through its array of C band and Ku band transponders after parking over 27.5 degrees west longitude. It replaced the aging Intelsat 605. Replacement On 2 April 2020, the Intelsat 907 was replaced by the Intelsat 901 satellite. Before this, Intelsat 901 had been taken out of operation (having operated for about 18 years in another orbital slot) and moved into graveyard orbit where it docked with Mission Extension Vehicle-1 (MEV-1), a satellite service craft. Mission Extension Vehicle
A Mission Extension Vehicle (MEV) is a type of spacecraft designed to extend the functional lifetime of another spacecraft through on-orbit satellite servicing. They are 2010s-design small-scale in-space satellite-refueling spacecraft first launched in 2019. The MEV spacecraft grew out of a concept proposed in 2011 by ViviSat, a 50/50 joint venture of aerospace firms US Space and Alliant Techsystems (ATK). The joint venture was created in 2010 for the purpose of designing, producing and operating the MEV program. Since the original conception of the MEV program by the ViviSat company, the Vivisat venture was shut down for a time, and the company was dissolved by Orbital ATK in April 2016. The Ku band () is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum in the microwave range of frequencies from 12 to 18 gigahertz (GHz).
